I am not sure, even not aware if my tint is metallic or not. But reception and colour is the same as all my other cars. :)

The metallic will cut a fair bit more heat out than dyed tint.....that's why I'm keen on all round metallic.

I got the tint done on Monday and I am happy with the result. It took three hours, cost $250, and it's got a 25 year warranty. The film is Formula One Plus, a 35% metallic film made in the States by Courtaulds. The tint guru talked me out of metallic on the rear screen. I really wanted this stuff as the research I've done indicates it reduces heat transfer by a further 10% when compared to a dyed tint.

He has a BA Falcon with full metal 15% tint and reports his AM reception as patchy, even in strong signal areas. (The BA also has it's antenna on the rear window). This didn't concern him as he never listens to AM. I wasn't put off, as I had reported evidence by tpryor of a successful full metallic install on his 8. They are obviously different, the BA and the RX-8. Then he told me of all the Euro cars he has done with full metallic tint in the past...Volvo's, BMW's etc. All had trouble with AM reception. I say, "I don't care, the RX-8 will be fine". He tells me he has done two identical cars with two identical metallic tints, and had two different outcomes. One with great reception, one with lousy..... "Okay then, what if I have a metallic put on the rear window, and then I want to remove it?" He says it's a bastard of a job, he can get the film off, but the adhesive left behind is stubborn. "Steel wool", he says. Well that was it for me.......no-one is going to take steel wool to my rear window .

End result...I had a product called Eminm applied to the rear screen. I found out this stands for Electro Magnetic Interference Non Metallic, a premium non metallic film, also by Courtaulds. The colour match is great, it was put on in one piece, and it has no bubbles.

A nice little touch was the tape they put over the window switches. It had "Do not wind down windows for 48 hours" printed on it, very professional. I'm being cautious, I'm going to wait for 96 hours :) . Oh, and 35% is plenty dark enough.

Glad to hear it went well, sounds like the same advice I had....

.....and the same tape, which left a white remnant line of adhesive over the piano gloss surface of the window switch panel.... good advice, of course, but something with less agressive adhesive would have been preferred

Ohh, peeled it off this afternoon no worries :)
