Say something funny... I could use a laugh.

Bat1 07-28-2005 12:41 AM

Labrat,

I think you're the comedian :p , poor StratoMike will be gutted! :(

As for musical talents, I can play the bagpipes (no I don't mean biting a cat's tail while squeezing it's stomach! ) but only when intoxicated (like BVD was last night) :D .

BrokenAngel 07-28-2005 12:47 AM

Well I'm not from Australia, but I am a musician. I play guitar, piano, drums, violin, and bass. I sing a little as well.

For which I am eternally grateful.

Revolver 07-28-2005 01:36 AM

Oh, this is about musicians!

I thought it was about those cheap Korean 4WDs with the old merc motors. ;) :D

Now I understand.

As for me...couldn't carry a tune if it had handles but my ears love it. :)

I can get down and dirty with a B-flat kazoo

lazymark 07-28-2005 01:50 AM

I am a professional dj and i produce music but im not gonna start the 'turntable isnt an instrument' discussion. In terms of conventional instrument, i play the midi keyboard mostly! :)

sco 07-28-2005 01:56 AM

I'll ask politely once again... can we please use the lounge thread for off topic discussions?

auzoom 07-28-2005 07:37 AM

Sco, unless we get a threaded lounge in the Aussie forum I dont think its likely. Not saying its right but just my 2 cents worth.

That was unfair and uncalled for. If you have a problem with Hymee, take it up with him -don't drag me into it. For your information, Hymee and I don't discuss his moderation activities.

Then the appropriate place to post it is on one of the threads discussing the Nationals. There is no need to start a new thread.

Oh for Gawd's sake Sco, what bloody difference does it make. :)

The threads all have headers on them - just skip what doesn't interest you. I read less than a third of the threads here, and it doesn't seem like any sort of problem. Forums like this aren't formal debating chambers or parliaments (actually the behaviour is probably better than parliaments...) they're more like pubs.

I've never understood why some people get upset about this kind of thing, and then try to tell everybody else to "post here" "post there" "use the search engine", "we've already talked about that 6 months ago" etc.

But I'm willing to listen. Please tell us why you think this is worth hassling people about. If you have a compelling reason, maybe it'll fly. :)

I've made my views clear previously about six months ago ... a search of my posts would remind you of them ;) Discussing this topic would be offtopic for this offtopic thread ;)

Seriously - If you want to discuss handling of offtopic posts in the Australian forum then start a new thread. That way others can contribute their views in somewhere they expect to. I'm not discussing it further on this thread.

Good idea Michael. Thanks for bracketing me with those who have musical talents. :) My take is that I have musical instruments and the talent is still in the mail.. should be here any day now... :D

Vicki and I used to put on DIY entertainment nights when we lived in Fremantle and they were a lot of fun.

We haven't done it for a few years, but we're thinking of starting them up again as we have a good range of mates with plenty of nerve and a fair range of talents.

We'd put 2 or 3 tables in a line in our lounge-room and put on a heap of food and drink. Then everybody would perform whatever they felt like doing. We opened the french doors at one end of the room and made a small enclosed "stage" on the verandah. It worked well.

We had singers (two or three of whom were semi-pros), musicians, some friends who read a poem or just some short piece they thought was good value, others told jokes, etc. Some just had the job of being an appreciative audience. Anyway, "amateur comedian" StratoMike would have been very welcome.

It does take a bit of organising though - many of us had theatre experience, but some others could be hard to persuade to do their thing. However, once they saw how easy-going it all was they often regretted not having been a bit bolder. It was necessary to keep pushing a bit at the start, and get people to agree to do something and then put a bit of preparation in - so that it wasn't a complete shambles - but the results were well worth it. :)

Good luck. Sorry I won't be at the Nats. :( Oh, and love the drums too, I'll check the local shops for equivalents. :)

aa@uow 07-28-2005 10:22 AM

i play guitar and drums.. and i do write songs.. :o

Just wanted to say BrokenAngel that the sight of your smiling face in your avatar this morning made me feel good. You look so happy and carefree. Made me smile. :)

Have fun with your music. :)

Nicely put. :) Like you, I was reluctant to post anything that might sound like the standard forum male "oh, look, drool, a GIRL... " type post, but I had the same thought.

There's something infectious and irresistible about a smile, and heck, I am just soooo jealous of people with that sort of range of musical ability.

I'm coming late to having a serious go at playing music, but boy it's a wonderful journey. I drool at music shop windows the way some people drool at car showrooms or jewelry shops....

Maybe it's time for an avatar change....

Hmmm...

What have I got in the right size?.....

Changed. That should have the punters begging for the shrieking yellow pic back again... ;)

Revolver 07-29-2005 11:26 PM

Hey BVD, how about a close up of your condenser grill as an avatar?? ;) :D :D
