Anything is possible, of course. But it has to be a 'special'. Dontcha reckon if there was a full MS kit it would hit the rumour mill here, well before a delivered car hit a dealer?

Very sus... believe it when I see it... probably a MS body kit on a standard 6spd, maybe an aftermarket s/c on it... does seem a strange place to debut such a highly anticipated upgrade

Gomez... MazdaSpeed will not produce any force induction to any rotary engine for that matter. They don't even have an upgrade turbine for the RX-7.
Just speaking stuff from Japan, the only supercharger available for sale is Blitz compressor, but Knight sport is also developing and last time I look at their ad and website they are still not on sale. Turbo charge is universal Trust turbines varieties with a lot of related mods, from RE, Trust and other rotary tuners. Certainly force induction means 60ps and good range map.... nothing concrete and run long in the market. No one want to be a tester right? |

The axial flow thread seems interesting.
Tak - theres a link on nzoom where it states mazda is under going development for a S/C kit for the 8. I garuntee if they did produce 1 3/4 of original owners will upgrade. (and most new buyers will take the latter option. |

I will need an intake, retune ECU, etc. I suspect at least $7000 |

I look at my Hymee sticker every day... it's still sitting on my desk! (Can't work out yet where to put on the car to win Hymee's praise - and prize.)
AUD 5-7k would certainly see me with an axial flow supercharger under the bonnet - once others have proven reliability. Hymee, how about a progress report on ricshaw's piggyback? |

The main aim would be to increase the powerline under the curve. I just looked at the Mazfix site and they charge six grand for their turbo upgrades to the older generation rotaries. Maybe five grand sounds a bit cheap considering the development that needs to be undertaken. Thereis a difference though between the appropriate price that should be paid to pay for all development costs and what the market will bear. The Mazfix upgrades do also get you more power than we are talking about here. |
Any company that will develope this kit would expect to take all the research and development money out of their own back pockets or get a few sponsors.
They will though re gain the costs once they start selling the upgrade kits. If all goes well of course. Another choice is to buy a working and proven model of turbo or super charging from another company and just installing it with instructions. They make money on the product sold and their install services. Regards Phillip |
I'd pay 7K for the axial SC. 220kW+ at the flywheel would keep me happy. As smoothy said, the increased area under the curve would be the real bonus over pure max horsepower. From what the thread is saying so far, hopefully much of the stock intake tract will stay intact. Shouldn't need an intercooler either. Both should keep the price down. Would a free trade agreement with the US mean no duty to import one? Someone please say yes!

Mercedes benz interestingly are dropping all their kompressor (supercharged )engines and will be going with Turbochargers in the future .
According to their engineers turbocharging is quiter more compliant to new emmision regulations and uses less fuel than superchargers . As turbochargers have been vastly improved and the turbo lag is no where as evident as previous turbos this may be the way forward .hmmm Supercharging or Turbocharging seems to be the big question mark for our rotaries ???? cheers michael |
Why would you need top end power when basically your never going to use it???
Would it be posibble to adjust the gear ratios if you fitted a racing customizable gearbox to close the gaps of the gears for much more gains in the the lower end (i.e acceleration). I have heard drag racers adjust their gear ratios always. I would be happy to drop the max speed to 180kph and beef up the 0 - 100km to 5 secs (if that is possible). |
Man i would be crying if max speed was 180kph.
It would be a waste. A second quicker 0-100 would be awsome though but i dont know.. To many people out there willing to throw away their warranty and start trusting a mechanic work shop? What happens if they go bust and you have a f*cked engine? You going to layout another 15K for a new one. Fingers crossed Mazda would release something, knowing how sad sometimes Mazda Australia is i dont expect anything to be honest and would not spend the money for a car to be FI as problems start later rather than sooner. i emailed MA about any turbo/SC Rx8's that are currently being devleoped and they said "NO".
I saw Rotor Masta's Turbo RX8 yesterday Im going to go for a spin next week and gets some numbers off him so i can really estimate if its going to be worth purchasing. |
