Speed Limiter

Can anybody tell me how to get rid of factory speed limiter ?

josuar88 03-20-2010 08:03 PM

Acessport= theres a map for that

alnielsen 03-20-2010 08:06 PM

Unless you have an Automatic Transmission, there isn't a speed limiter on NA spec cars. For the AT cars it's 125 mph or 200 kph. How often are you going to do that?

mscamp02 03-20-2010 08:07 PM

EDIT: didnt realize NZ resident as alnielsen pointed out

alnielsen 03-20-2010 08:13 PM

He's from New Zealand, that's different.

My car is a six speed manual and I take it out on track days.

Brettus 03-20-2010 08:21 PM

Hi Mike ,

i have software to do that but i'm pretty sure the accesport from Cobb will do it as well .
Is your car JDM or NZ ?

BTW i track my 8 at hampton downs , Puke and Taupo . Where do you go ?

Easy. There is none in Australian models. :boink:.

If it is a JDM imports. Try HKS speed limiter cutter.

I always thought the NZ new cars didn't have speed limiters - might pay you to check that it isn't a JDM model before you buy anything for it .

... considering that, from memory Mazdas in NZ are effectively JDM ...

Wise words ...

So, any ideas on this from Kiwis? I am also sick of harrassing high horsepower cars on the track and then having them get away at the end of the straight at Hampton Downs or Pukekohe. The latter may be less of a problem with the new chicane I guess...

After HEAPS of searching my options seem to be:

A speed cut defencer from Japan. About $1000 landed. Crazy.
A guy in Hawera who can remove it for $150. That is great but getting to Hawera from Akl is impractical (and I have thought long and hard about just road tripping down there). Had it booked in next Friday actually but I have hurt my back and can't get down there any time soon.
A Cobb AP. The problem there is I have to use the MM map and it seems that I have to submit to his whims to get the car tuned as it comes with a base map you can't/shouldn't run the car on. That seems to mean many late night sessions on google talk, and much mucking about. I don't want HP gains, I just want to lose the limiter.

Any bright ideas? There are so many JDM cars here in NZ it is hard to believe there is no better way.

Well I suggest you open up the ECU box and see if some mad owner went JDM YO inside your ECU box .... IE put an SLD in .

Sam Ewan Wright 12-17-2012 03:00 AM

when i get to 188 mine fuel cuts.......

nickf23 01-09-2013 07:59 PM

Big thanks to Brettus for removing my speed limiter this week. All very painless and I have "verified" that is is gone (cough). The semi-slicks are now back on the car and ready for a couple of track days at the end of the month.

As a side issue, the Yokos may be street legal but you wouldn't want to run round in them for long...they are incredibly noisy. Ruins the car to be honest.
