Simple users guide to the RX8
 

I've got to leave my RX8 at a friend's place while I'm away for a week.

I figured his wife may need to move it or wish to take it for a spin (which I don't have a problem with - she's a sensible girl).

As I probably won't have a chance to run her through the 8's pecadillos, I've drafted a short list of simple instructions that I thought I'd leave in the car, which I'll reproduce here:


JUST IN CASE YOU WANT TO USE OR NEED TO MOVE THE CAR...

1. Do not press on the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.

2. Give it a few minutes to warm up before moving off. Once the temp needle gets to the inner bar it is good to go.

3. Press the gear lever down to engage reverse.

4. When you first move off you may hear a little clunk - don't panic, that is just the ABS test which automatically happens between 5-10km/h.

5. If you only drive it a short way (say less than 2 minutes) run it at 3000rpm in neutral for about 10 seconds before switching the engine off to avoid flooding it.

6. Avoid more than 4000rpm for the first 10-15 minutes - after that do not be frightened to rev it - it is built for that.

7. There is a rev limiter which will beep when engaged - that's a signal to change up!

8. Premium unleaded only please.

9. Do not attempt to shut the front doors unless the rear doors are properly shut.

10. Do not press the DSC button under the dash on the RHS - that will disengage the directional stability control.


So do you reckon that covers it?? I don't want to be too anal about it but at the same time I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

oooooo is that what the clunk is when you just move out...

REAR PASSENGERS SHOULD ONLY USE THEIR OWN REAR SEAT BELT , NOT GET IT CONFUSED AND USE THE FRONT ONES OTHERWISE THEY WILL GET THEMSELVES STUCK AND BE UP FORTHE COST OF A NEW ONE .

Has someone tried that in your car?

There has been some cases were the driver was forced to wait 20 minutes to be released because the rear passenger mistakenly used the wrong seatbelt , if you dont believe me try it for yourself , SEE WHAT HAPPENS :D

Ummmm... Personally?? I wouldn't leave any instructions. If you're that worried about your baby, leave her in your garage or something.
Also if your friends are anything like mine, they'll most likely understand how much you love your car and treat her with the utmost repsect.
I would be surprised if your baby flooded, I've made a zillion quick on/offs like moving her a few meters and never had even the slightest hesitation starting.
From what I can see, flooding seems like a rare occurence in AU.

Yeah - hop in, start it, drive it, shut it down, hop out. It is a modern car FFS. That is what they are meant to do. I've even tried to stall-flood mine. The only time I have "trouble" starting is when the battery is a little week. That is a trait of rotaries - low cranking compression hinders starting, hence a weak battery = low cranking RPM = hard 2 start.

Thanks for the reality check guys - I'm gonna scrap the list.

I guess I've taken all the dire warnings and sage advice on this forum a little too much to heart!! ;) :D

My travel arrangements are such that I have to leave it there - I just wanted to make sure there would be no dramas. But Taka's right - this is a mature intelligent woman we're talking about here.

I would put a baseball bat in the boot so that she can chase all the drooling boy-racers away.

Yea Lock I aint trained completely in using them yet. A bat is easier to manage :)

Visualising a pint sized blonde chick ;) swinging a large bat at a would be attacker just cracks me up :D , nanchukars are easily hidden a baseball bat nearly as tall as you ;) is not :p .dont take offence j/k

This reminds me, last nite I was leaving Karate, and I always park my car right infront of the school (even tho it aint a park, so I can keep an eye on it hehe). Well I was standin out the front, and this guy started walkin around my car and peering inside it and walking around to the front and then to the back then lookin inside... My first thought was like.. wat the hell is this guy doing........ So wat did I do?? I set the panic alarm off. Was quite funny as we watched him walking backwards from my car and staring at it as if it was alive or something :p ;)
