Silly Season Stuff

As a science worker, I don't believe in stuff like astrology, but according to an insurance industry worker, there are strong correlations between your star sign and getting tickets and having accidents.

Here's the link for the ranking:

Me:

Taurus - Apr. 20 to May 20

The astrological sign for Taurus is the bull. They’re stubborn, and have an urge to charge at red lights.

haha

i'm 6th for tickets and 8th for accidents

interesting find !!!! I dont think its very true tho.. lol

I'm a Virgo.

"Virgos have a nervous attention to detail. They made the cover of the Car Carma book. They’d be slamming their brakes on to avoid hitting a squirrel, but cause a 10 car pile-up."

What a pile of shit!

That squirrel is dead meat if it gets in my way. :ylsuper:

5th Worst Position :
Scorpio - Oct. 23 to Nov. 21

The scorpion’s instinct is to get revenge, and driving is the perfect avenue to vent a little Scorpion road rage. If you pass a Scorpio, plan on being chased.

thats a crock 2, u drive like a nana eric :P

I'm Cancer and considered low risk. :hahano:

"They’re homebodies, and consider the roadway of drivers their extended family. But they’re a moody group, and would be the ones to honk at you for no reason at all."

What crap. I'd disown most drivers I see as relations and ALWAYS have a good reason to give them the horn. :spank: :cwm27:

There are also strong correlations between mild retardation and insurance industry workers.

Labby, I'm suprised at the departure from your usual empirical realm...

Having said that, classical astrology (as opposed to star sign generalisations!) has a strong grounding in reality. Every policeperson and medico will tell you about the extra accidents and crime associated with the full moon, for example.

Me, an empiricist? Hardly. Actually, it has been interesting the way some people here have reacted, by jumping straight to the fuzzy stuff. The article is the summary of findings published in a book sold by an on-line insurance broker. The data set comprised 100,000 people, which is by any account a statistically significant number. What the author said was that star sign was a more significant predictor than age of whether you had had an auto accident or got a traffic ticket . Rather than saying that star sign is significant, it could be that the correlation with more intuitive factors such as age is so bad, even star sign looks a better predictor. We don't know how good the correlation with star sign looks like - I guess you'd have to buy the book.

However, it does make you think that the actuarial bases that are used to set car insurance premiums mightn't be all that good. I guess you could also say that you can prove anything with statistics - there are lies, damn lies and statistics.
