RX8 & Marital Friction

Well the day has come when my 8 is starting to cause friction with the wife. For the last little bit the budget we set to live on has been outlived a little. Having not really done anything out of the ordinary nor bought any big ticket items this constant (over the last 8 months) going over the monthly budget was surprising.

Last night we sat down and went over all statements and receipts to figure this out. Shit  :( ... it was not good news. The culprit has been my fuel bill. I have averaged $400.00 a month more in fuel than my previous car and it's rising.

Last month my fuel bills added up to $657.85 and there was not a huge amount of driving outside of the normal routine which is get up, go to work & come home. I do spend 1.5-2hrs (over 60km pretty heavy traffic) driving each way to and from work.

This month so far is $639.40 and I need to fill tonight as the low fuel light is on!

The wife not impressed is an understatement :( So this morning came a semi altermatem... Either find another $500 a month or loose the car, and as she reminded me she agreed to the increased budget to fit in the car repayment and then also let me take some savings to buy the mods, that now it was my turn to agree with her :( :( :(

So I now sit here at work waiting for the company director to get in so as I can ambush him for a $500.00 in my hand a month pay rise. He loves his M3 and taking it to the track and loves my 8 so the plan is to appeal to his inner car passion and the fact that I leave home 6.30 each morning and don't get home until around 9.00 in the evening all because they chose to move work from the city to out near the bloody Mountains!

Wish me luck because I am going to need it... or a damn big shotgun :D

Maaate.. I feel for you...
But if all else fails, how about you ride to work every other day.. or ride the first 2/3 days and drive the rest..
This has the benefits of reducing your fuel consumption on mutliple levels.
1. you won't be doing as many Kms
2. you get leaner and fitter, therefore weigh less which will mean you'll use less fuel
3. the fact that you get fitter and the endorphins released due to exercise will mean you be more amorous in the evenings and hence your Mrs may forget the increase cost of fuel ;p

but I agree... ask for more money first :D

Well said LittleJohn....
Just to add to that. Why don't you ask your boss for a fuel card instead of the extra dough. Especially with fuel forever rising and the Mrs. 12 months from now will probably come to you with the same problem. Least you need never worry about the cost of fuel again.
I did it with my boss and he didn't even flinch.

Riding to work in this cold weather?? Thats insane, he'll catch pneumonia and then they'll sell the car anwayz! This car definately does cost a lot more to maintain and fact I know you guys love driving around in them a little more then driving around in an average car. Ive had similar problem as the cost of petrol for this car is a lot LOT higher then my previous car being a 1.3litre daihatsu which would cost me max $30 petrol a week and do about 500km. And now with these shocking fuel prices, plus this freezing weather and having to use the heater in the car I feel the car is drinking the fuel quicker then an alcoholic and his brandy (or watever he wants to drink). However, it is something we all knew when we purchased this car that the costs would be a little higher.

Am sorry to hear about this Stuart. Hope your boss agrees with you. Am sure you have considered just driving the car a little less :p

I have to point something out here while we discussing the marital friction. Have noticed all you guys have to discuss things with your wives. Damn I like this, these women have power ;) Where do I find a man that will listen to me too hehehehe

Cheer up Stuart :)

Ta, Kalli.

If Danielle would like to give me a call I am prepared to offer her a reasonable price on four used second hand 19" wheels and tyres :D
Say $500 that gives you one months peace at least

Good Luck with the boss / fuel card...................

Better luck with the budget manager

How is it all of a sudden is my fault  ?

Sorry about this Stu... I think it is time to ditch that phone sex obsession :p just kidding.

I also have made a lot of saving to fulfil my luss for the RX-8. I have cut down a number of lap dances to zero for instance :p

Riding in the cold isn't as bad a you think. The hardest bit is getting motivated to do it.. but once you're out there, it's quite invigorating :)

takahashi 06-29-2005 09:23 PM

I just saw that the IPE crude oil is 56 us cent a barrel. Drop another %!

The Woodside and Santos are sliding again

Stu - this is a good site - Shell local pump price - as of 10am each morning

No don't be concerned about money too much, the budget kind of is my fault. It was my idea a long time ago. A percentage each month goes to the morgage, investment property, share market and savings account. What's left we live off. My thinking was that I would like to retire one day with that day being sooner rather than later ;) My bad for trying to be responsible

A good romp in the sack gets you a long way ;) Shit I sounded just like Michael... The wisdom he departs is having an effect, i'm sounding like a real man :D :p

Ooh... Good try, but honestly let me think about it for a second. Ummm... NO, NO and NO!

Jeez the cheek of some on this forum

It will all be right. I will tell her I am happy to upgrade to a newer ride. I'll just imply that maybe though I am not talking about the car  That will buy some time for my boss to pony up some more $$$$ or fuel card.

So all you vultures circling overhead, your wasting your time... No cheap used mods coming from this direction :p Now where did I put those adds for LYFM mail order Brides :D :D

xxup 06-29-2005 10:40 PM

You could always supplement your income by selling your body - after hours..

There is always public transport - - saves wear and tear on the car..

I really need you to be at the nationals - Danielle is my passport to taking the 8 down with me.. If the Finance Director is the only 'Track chick" then I am a goner.. :(

Don't worry mate. I will not miss the nationals. Even if I have to hire one for it :D You will not have to deal with the Finance director... Danielle can handle that one. We will be there to drive ;) :D

MissyK 06-29-2005 10:48 PM

Excuse me xxup, I didnt know I was a male? Wat am I then at the track?? Melbourne guys will vouch for me that I do look like a female and that I AM a female

Sorry Kalli, but you are a "driving chick" not a "track chick".. The Finance Director loves driving on the cruises, but is not interested in driving on the track...

Anyway it seems that it is academic as I have just been informed that I will be going on my own.. :(

MissyK 06-29-2005 11:08 PM

haha its funny, ur ladies dont like the idea of coming, yet I have mates begging me to let them come with me :)

Dont worry xxup, she may change her mind by then, perhaps closer to the date all the guys can arrange to drop their ladies off at a winery. Timbo said theres a few there?? Leave the ladies at the winery :p With cash of course or your credit cards :D

xxup 06-29-2005 11:12 PM

I would prefer it if the Fianance Director came with us - she really is good fun.. Except for.... you know... then.... :(

azzaboynt 06-30-2005 12:29 AM

my wife with my credit card on a spending spree = sometime later a lot of burly dudes with baseball bats at my front door looking lovingly at my knees.

maybe the nationals will be part of a "business" trip. "honey, instead of flying down to Melb for work, i'll be taking the car.."

Revolver 06-30-2005 01:39 AM

Oh man, you guys have got no idea!!!!

I've just had the biggest damn row with the wife.  And of course the car and anything I do with it got dragged into it.

I reckon I'll be lucky to make the 2020 Nationals at this rate (by which time I'll be out on parole following the ritual killing that is going to take place tonight, 'cause it's gonna be her or me and guess what...it ain't gonna be me!!!)
