RX-8 Nationals! Expressions of Commitment for 03/07/10

Yes, the Nationals Tradition is continuing!

WHAT: Weekend of food, drink and racing around in a safe environment
WHEN: July 3rd at Wakefield Park Goulburn
HOW MUCH: $440 at current numbers (Track Entry+Meals+Timing)

Now the purposes of this thread is to gauge interest in the club and how many people are willing to go. If we can't get enough numbers then it can't go ahead. For people who have never been before, it is an awesome time. You arrive Friday evening, have a yarn and dinner (all meals covered in entry) then get an early night. Come Saturday, a hot breakie then we have the entire track for ourselves. As an RX-8 owner you probably have gotten some grief about your fuel economy, or your rotary engine and its lack of torque...but on a race track, nothing comes close to our cars for fun :)
Breaking only for lunch, you'll have so much track time you will almost certainly need to refuel. Followed by dinner and (if we get enough people) awards ceremony, you'll get to break out your best race driver excuses. Good nights sleep, Sunday breakfast and make your way home :)

Now the track is very heavily booked, and we are in the purpose of confirming dates at costs now, but if people can please vote if they are interested, and post if the are committed, that would be great. We need at least 18 people to make it financially viable (though expensive) and every person over that number brings the cost down for all.

Also note that when this kicks off you will need to make a non-refundable deposit to secure your spot, and the full amount will be needed by April, so factor that in. I think its best to overestimate the cost, so assume participation in the Nationals will cost you $500 (Entry + Accommodation) and commit yourself from there!

The day is a blast, and a good chance to meet up with both local members and interstaters (Hopefully our QLDers can make the trek again!)

If those I PM'ed could also post here to encourage the others and make support public that would be fantastic!

Good work Vanq.

This will be no. 6 for me, so I'll be there for sure! :)

I endorse Nathan's comments above. It's always been a great weekend for those who make the effort to attend. The cost is also relatvely cheap when you consider that it includes accommodation and all meals from Friday night to Sunday morning.

There's nothing like a day at a track to ascertain whether those mods you've shelled out for are for a purpose or for a pose, so get involved. You'll have a blast....

Welcome to the big smoke Vanq.

This is one event that I and some of the other regulars look forward to as it is a great opportunity to see what your car can really do in a controlled environment. For those that will be doing this for the first time there are some good experienced drivers here to give you some tips.

Apart from the driving opportunity I also look forward to meet up with some fantastic people and share stories.

Look forward to a great turn out again this year.

Copy and paste is a wonderful tool. :ylsuper:

I think it might be a good idea to check your estimated costs.
From previous experience you're looking at around $4600 Track Hire,$800 Public Liability Insurance,$550 Ambulance,$450 Timing[approx],$3300[approx] Meals,and $3600 Accomodation,based on 30 Entries[Optomistic]
That's just under $450 per person with 30 entries.
Talk to some of the people who've done it before for more info.
Cheers
Len

If you need any help let me know, not much I can do in person but I can make phone calls etc.. from here in QLD. Or as Len said if you need to talk about what I did when I put them on here I can fill you in.

mdr 01-30-2010 04:10 AM

Also any newbies wondering if you should give it a go, all I can say is do it.

If you have never tracked before this is the best opportunity to do it the first time you will ever have.
You are on a track with a bunch of people that
1. Have done this before and can guide you.
2. Everyone has the same car and concerns about driving it home in one piece as you do.
3. A bunch of people that will not give you crap about being too slow or holding them up etc.
4. It is just plan fun and everyone involved are good people and a hell of a lot of fun.
5. We always have a blast.

So if you are hesitant of worried about your first time on the track, join in, you will not regret it I promise.

takahashi 01-30-2010 06:52 AM

I should be able to make it this year. Seeing it is July... (no bike ride month)

Cheers for that Len, we basically have an exact costing of Wakefield minus catering at this point (which is what we are waiting on, if Debbie can't get back to us on that front we may look at self supplying) Thats what we have based best case pricing on. Notice the worse case pricing is $500

Also we have a bit of sponsorship for this years Nationals, Shannons Insurance are coming to the party and helping out with costs. Helps when you know the business manager and he drives an RX-7 :naughty:

Taka: Brilliant news mate, I've been wanting to meet you...now you just need to get Zoom to come along :D:

Revolver 01-30-2010 10:17 PM

I'd think long and hard about self-supplying food/drink, etc. Debbie does a fantastic job and I'm sure will give us competitive pricing. Removes a lot of hassle too.

If you're having a hard time, ask Len to speak to her about it. He knows her well and if she knows the previous organisers are involved, it may grease some wheels there.

Speaking of long-term attendees, we have invited previous RX8 owners such as Len, Timbo and Rod to past events due to their magnificent support and assistance for our little car community. I hope you intend to continue that tradition.

matt13b 01-31-2010 07:32 AM

I am keen but I will be selling my RX8 shortly and don't plan on getting my next car until June or July at the earliest so I can say I am a tentative yes depending on being allowed to attend in a car that isn't an RX8 and also whether I get it in time for the event..

Revolver 01-31-2010 06:12 PM

what are you getting Matt?

DrewMan 02-01-2010 04:38 AM

Add me up brothers and sisters!

I think it will be the 135i. I'm not sold on the looks but as far as fast rear wheel drives at that price point go I think it's a good car. Hopefully the performance will make up for the looks!

Revolver 02-01-2010 04:48 PM

I test drove the 135i twice trying hard to fall in love with the looks but just couldn't. Amazing engine though - wouldn't you love one of them in an RX8 body!

Whoops, did I say that out loud??? :uhh: :nono: :evil_laug:evil_laug:evil_laug

Vanquisher 02-01-2010 05:02 PM

Good work DrewMan...your not on the AU forum as a different alias are you?

takahashi 02-01-2010 10:16 PM

135 is a very good car. But I still love driving the 8.

No doubting that Taka. Just a subjective opinion about looks.

Hope to see you in your 8 in July...I'll give you a drive of the Hymeed Revolvermobile (assuming it's all done by then)...

takahashi 02-07-2010 05:27 PM

135 is a car that does not look fast. But people who love cars knows how good it is.

I am looking forward to drive my 8 again Dave. You know I am back on pedal power big time for health reasons and loving it. Wanting to buy another bicycle for next summer. The 8 is gathering dust and driving the 1er everyday for school runs and work is very cool.

I have confirmed for the ATC (aka Dutton rally) and in my 8 this year. Should be good as this year we are going to Winton/DECA. You know I am not quite slow around Winton in my 8, although I will be rusty skill wise.

I have driven a tuned 135 Dave when I raced ATC last year and so nothing will thrill me in terms of power now. :)

Pedal power will improve your driving too. You'll be lighter and mentally sharper.

Good luck with the ATC and I'll take your final comment as a "thanks but no thanks" to my invitation. :)

Vanquisher 02-14-2010 04:04 PM

Ok guys, sorry for the delay, but the first run of the entry form is ready. We have confirmed prices for Wakefield, at this level of numbers the weekend will cost $440 (track, timing, meals), thanks to an increase in track hire and ambulance cover. When we get more people committed this price will go down, but if we operate off it for now it will simplify matters. We can always refund the decrease/put it towards next years Nationals.

As such we are asking for deposits of $150 from those who are committed, and the full amount by 15 June. This deposit is non refundable as it will be used to secure the track.

Also, we are looking for State Co-ordinators for NSW, QLD and VIC, I've left the old details in the form pending confirmation :)

Find the entry forum on the .com.au site, until I can figure out how to attach it here!

Revolver 02-14-2010 07:37 PM

I'm happy to co-ordinate the NSW rabble again. :D: :beer05: :D: :beer05:

Black-8 02-15-2010 01:11 AM

I'm happy to be the state co-ordinator for VIC if none of our regulars VIC think they have the time do it.

Vanquisher 02-18-2010 05:17 AM

Deposits are rolling in, you don't want to be the last one who hasn't made your deposit!
