Royal purple oil

Just serviced my car under supervision from Ken my rotary mechanic .

.Decided to give Mazda the flick :p i Used Royal Purple oil on the transmission and Differential,75-w90 ,the oil in the transmission flowed like dirty water it had very little viscosticy , and the colour was greyish with plenty of metal shavings

My car has only 36,000km so i was quite suprised , the differential oil was in far better condition .

The Mazda dealer on my last service told me that i had used up 75% of my front brake pads , this i found was totall bullshit , i still had 40% pad wear left , but decided to change them anyway both front and rears .

Also replaced the brakefluid and bleed the brakes :D

They also said that they needed to machine my discs also total bullshit my discs are like brand new , any how they have totally lost me , being here and on a daily learning curve has given the confidence to go beyond my mechanical threshold :D

Royal Purple oil has given a Definite improvement on the gears smooth  i believe it has also decreased noise level , i have the RP short shifter .

From now on i will change my Engine oil every 5000km after seeing the condition of the oil

Next service i will change the coolant and replace the spark plugs ;)

Dont take for granted what your Mazda dealer tells you i have caught them out many a time .

cheers
michael

Nice to see you look after your car

What coolant and what spark plugs...???? :)

I am tempting to show you what I have got but I will let you to go first!
I will keep it as a secret until it is time to change. I suspect my spark will be bad after 20000km.

Coolant is ok.... I will change it later on.

Agree on changing oil 5000km, I change prob every 3000km coz I don't use it that much.

You have convinced me of changing the diff and gear oil but I don't know where to get Purple so I go for Red ... (it is pretty close ;)).

Taka

Royal purples head office is in Sydney 02/96 83 50 78 they will put you on to dealers in Melbourne .

Funny enough the same Royal purple oil for our cars are used in outboard motors for Boats 75w90 ;)

You should get them for $27.50 per litre you need 4 liters 1.3 for transmission and 1.7 liters for differential .

Because we didnt have a pump we had to improvise and use a rubber hose to pump the oil intu the transmission and differential , A BIT MESSY BUT IT DID THE JOB

As far as what type of coolant i havent researched it yet , and sparkplugs shit i cant remenber but i did have a number for them , oh well have to research again .

cheers

Sound like a big job~!

Let me know what you know about plugs. Please don't tell me you put Australian stock plugs in ;)

Lock & Load 04-30-2005 08:06 AM

You need two trailing and two leading plugs , most likely i will try and get the Densos or Ngk iridium plugs :p

These are stock plugs. No difference to what you have in the car.
The heat rating is still no 7 in the trailing and no 9 in the back.
someone in US, don' t know RG or MazdaManiac runs 9 and 9.

Tell you what I have the NGK racing plug from Japan, especially for the RX8. Still a secret until I put them on. hehe

Interesting to see if the NGK racing plugs are that much better than stock?

Big $$$$ i suppose ?

Stuart (ILIV48) WILL NOT CATCH YOU IN THE STRAIGHTS ;)

Racing plugs are as below:

It generally has a higher heat range.
It will not "gain" power.
It will prevent "loss" of power at extreme conditions e.g. at 8000rpm of 4th gear uphill.
It last much shorter life than the normal iridium plugs.
Not for people that use the car everyday.

So I think you should look at Denso from USA or Japan.

Regarding price... I don't think they are much more expensive. NGK iridium for stock rx-8 is $30-40 each right?

Hey Michael, read this chart

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=43435

The plug you get from the Denso site is the same heat range as the leading NGK 9 and trailing NGK 10. They are racing type plug heat range

Stock is NGK 7 leading and NGK 9 trail

L&L

Thanks for your royal purple update. I have been considering this for a while now as I feel that the diff noise and gearbox shift action could be improved.

I also like the idea of cleaning out the gearbox from all that metal shaving floating around.

Has anyone else made the switch?
