Question about my rx8..

Hello.

It's been long time, when i last bothered you guys..

Well...

I imported few parts..and it's on the way to sydney ( via ship )

BTW.. i recently had problem with breaking down of coil.. ( but i'm not sure..where.. well mazda fixed it under warranty )

After fixing that.. I tried to rev rpm till 8-9

before beep. And i noticed...car doesn't go over rom 7000!

sometimes it does...til beeping noise.. and sometimes it doesn't..

i don't think the gear you are in matters..

2nd..or 3rd..

Is it like..auto protection or something?? that engine is preventing ?? i'm not sure..

with 2nd gear... with out changing.. i keep reving..up

and when it reaches about 7000 and 70-80km/h

car stays on that speed and rev, even though i full throttle it.

what could it be?? should i go back to mazda to check this issue??

yours is an auto? autos have a lower redline than the manuals as the torque converter cant handle the power or something like that.
your tacho should have the lower redline on it though, unless for some reason you have a manual tacho in your auto?

Is that right?

I will doubt they will mistaken a dash of manual to an auto. The QC person in hiroshima prob drunk. He prob thinks - where is that D on the dash gone? No worries... the owner will find it.

Katana,
To be honest, I do not understand what are you talking about. Plz explain yourself.

Check the service slip that the mazda person gave you. It will say what coil. If it were to O-ring of the rotor. Then you will need to baby the engine.

I have known that Mazda have restricted someone's rev before by putting the flash that cut power at certain rev. Maybe you have piss of the manager :hahano:

It sounds more logical that then having a manual tacho right XLR83N????

XLR83N 03-25-2007 07:39 PM

yeah im not too sure about what the problem is to be honest, just noticed katana mention auto protection, so thinking that its an auto...

here is an extract from a review site...

"Learn to drive a manual transmission if you’re thinking of buying the Mazda RX-8. Here’s the deal: with the standard four-speed automatic, the RX-8 loses 41 horsepower (197 vs. 238 with the six-speed manual) and 1,500 rpm of rev range (redline drops to 7,500 rpm), but gains five foot-pounds of torque (164 over 159) and makes peak power at lower revs to help compensate. Mazda also throws in SportShift with the automatic, which includes paddle shifters on the steering wheel to manually change gears for “a Formula 1-style driving experience.”

Wow. that sounds right.

I did piss the service guys up. Maybe they have restricted rev!

i've been going to mazda service like once- twice a month. ( ..about 4 times in feb-march )

I do own a manual rx8. it feels like...jammed at certain rev? even i full throttle the accerator, car won't respond.. it does seem like rev is limited.

If i tell mazda will they fix it? but they did it on purpose :p

the paper works.. i asked them, but they said i don't need it..so i just left..

well i can drop back and check it out. Takahashi, what do you mean about coil to

O-ring of the rotor??
what is it got to do with baby the engine?? ( i have no knowledge! would you be kind enough to explain briefly??)

Thanks people.

How did you get a drivers licence :Freak_ani

What Katana is saying is that his coil went, Mazda have replaced them and since then the car appears to have a rev limit (not fuel cut) of 7000rpm,.

Personally I would say if its reproducible take it back to the dealer.

takahashi 03-26-2007 12:55 AM

What coil, there is so many coil in the car. The O ring is the oil seal in the rotor. It has spring (coil)???????????

There are so many coils in the car, I don't know which one he is talking about or even does he know which coil in which part of the car? I initially he was talking about the spring of the suspension, then I read about the fact that he cannot rev the car....

I think there is some sort of rev limit on the car... May be they screw up and upload an automatic flash on the PCM :hahano:. Anything else is not working? Did your gear stick changes on its own

auzoom 03-26-2007 01:08 AM

Which Coil pack? The kind that most people talk about when mentioning coils. The ignition coils.

Katana, do you suffer any spluttering? or does it just hold a nice stead RPM?

Yey...

you got the right idea..

i'm not sure which coil it was...

something about electricity..

I don't suffer any other problem.. it just holds steady rpm at 7000~7500.

and speed also doesn't drop..

it just holds there.. maybe 1~2km drop?

Thanks for having interest in my question.

I do ask some stupid questions...and makes non-sense, but don't be too cruel to me people T-T

auzoom 03-26-2007 05:03 PM

Back to my other question then, is it reproducible? If so go straight back to the dealer (Be nice) and explain what has happened. Take them for a test drive to show them. I dont care how much of a PITA you are/were, there is no excuse for anything other than good customer service, if they refuse to look at it/fix it then go to another dealer.

MissyK 03-26-2007 06:22 PM

How do you know its Mazda not giving good service? Katana isnt even making sense, I havent understood anything on here - maybe they dont understand him either. Andrew next time ur in Syd can u take Katanas car to dealer urself

takahashi 03-27-2007 01:46 AM

I just come across this and remember that someone here had happen to them b4.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/agency-power-pulley-problems-112538/

I refuse to believe Mazda mechanics would go and purposely do something to a car just because of a difficult customer! Firstly this would be unethical and unprofessional behaviour on Mazda dealers part. And fact that we know for a fact that Mazda dealers (well at least here in Victoria!) will go to extremes to satisfy their customer, well I refuse to believe a dealer in Sydney would act inproper - no matter how much of a pain in the ass a customer would be.

auzoom 03-28-2007 01:14 AM

Sorry I wasnt saying they would/did do something deliberately, and I know a lot of a few service departments here in Melb that do some stupid things. Agreed its more likely to be through stupidity than maliciousness.
