My Local RX-8 ROTARY ENGINE Repairer RENESIS for New Zealand.
This thread is only for New Zealand RX-8 owners who live in New Zealand.
RX-8 Owners wanting to know 'where and who' to see exactly (who to contact, to visit, tow their RX-8 to) in the event they believe their RX-8 needs major repairs....like a new engine.
Now yes, I know the option is to take car to your nearest Mazda Dealer, however for those who no longer have any Mazda New Car Warranty (of 3 years) the cost of repairs at a Mazda Dealership can be prohibitive and to some cases outrageously expensive.
So, where and who do we go to next...??
This is where I would like any RX-8 Club.com Members (NZ Members) who have actually experienced 'a' particular Rotary Engine re-builder or
re-manufacturer who they have used and would recommend for the good people of New Zealand.
We don't want to see second hand hear say, only first hand knowledge and first hand experiences.
So please tell us your experience with your RX-8 Rotary Engine re-builder-repairer for our New Zealand members...
How long was your car off the road for....
Did they supply you a loaner vehicle...
Was there any extras 'incidental parts' that required renewing...like a clutch kit and how much $$'s.
What Warranty period did this RE repairer give you...??
How does your RX-8 perform now...??
Was it all worth it..are you happy...??
What did it cost you....all up in the end...??
Would you recommend this repair shop again....??
So please keep it honest and 'help' others in need of a 'new heart' for their Kiwi RX-8.
Please leave your RE repairer's contact details below and a post/zip code..
BTW: Yes there are some extremely good Rotary Engine supply forum Vendors here, BUT, almost all are State Side and for changeover Engine Repair costs are prohibitive (mainly Shipping and NZ Customs), however, IF you believe the cost is one that is acceptable to you, then I have no hesitation in recommending our US vendors like....
Paul at Mazmart, for his re-mans or used/new Mazda Parts.
Or Jason Baggie at Montgomery Mazda for all your new Mazda Parts.
If you are aware of your NZ Rotary Engine repairer may wanting to become a local Forum Sponsor/Advertiser, or Forum Vendor supplier here then please let us know.

Al Marsh Automotive in Christchurch
Not sure of address, just use the yellow pages or whatever lol
My RX8 had a brand new motor built by him when i bought it (was a huge selling point)
Never dealt with directly but I've heard great things from many people about this shop
edit: I understand you only want first hand experiences, but i'm sure my decision to part my hard earned cash on this particular RX8 because of who built it's engine means it warrants a place in this thread

I've heard nothing but great things about Al Marsh too Slidin. His workshop is located down Halkett Street (off Antigua, off Moorhouse) I only know this because I work just down from there. From the very limited 1st hand experience I've had his workshop is 1st grade (talked to him about a new battery for the 8)

Getting an engine built right now by Mark Haynes (Haynes Rotary) - will report soon on how well that goes.
Have also had two rebuilds from Charlie Evans here in Hamilton and he did a great job . I took the bare block to him and his labour cost was $1000. Parts cost is very dependent on what can be reused so not going to attempt an all up price .

Two instances of repairs on the 8 since i've had her:
First: south auckland motors - pukekohe
Reason for getting repairs? had radiator light on, sensor buggered. Bought car cheap and decided to get dealer to replace header tank. While in there to service car also.
How long was your car off the road for: 3 weeks
Did they supply you a loaner vehicle: no
Was there any extras 'incidental parts' that required renewing: broke plastic inlet hose into radiator, said the radiator was stuffed. This after I went through several vehicle self inspections with two sets of eyes. They replaced radiator their cost.
What Warranty period did this RE repairer give you: nil
How does your RX-8 perform now: after picking car up one radiator inlet hose clamp was not seated correctly and when came to stop and started circulating / bleed green coolant all over my driveway.
Was it all worth it: no, after approx $500 nzd had further problems than when i went in.
What did it cost you: all up half a day of my labour, bottle of coolant and another two hours on phone with dealership.
Would you recommend this repair shop again: no, good luck if you do...
Second instance: rx7 heaven
Reason for getting repairs: progressively worse noise from input bearing (turning radio on 12 no longer helped ), also had cat removed.
How long was your car off the road for: 2 days
Did they supply you a loaner vehicle: no
Was there any extras 'incidental parts' that required renewing: no
What Warranty period did this RE repairer give you: same as usual for repairs of this nature
How does your RX-8 perform now: far better noise wise, also makes a decent pop with exhaust.
Was it all worth it..are you happy: yes
What did it cost you....all up in the end: i think $250 for both
Would you recommend this repair shop again: yes, knows his stuff. Only problem is the guy is that rotary mad he's hard to get away from.

Smoking turbo yay
Hi iv had my Mazda Rx8 not running for a while and I am just not 100% sure of what the problem is, I have a feeling that then engines flooded, need a new starter motor or new spark plugs maybe. It won’t move so can’t drive it to a Mazda dealership or anything. If anyone could watch the video attached and let me know if you know anything about it and how I could fix the problem that would be sweet as. Thank you
