It is a write-off!

Well the NRMA has just told me that it a write-off. :D

They are going to their "preferred dealers" to determine the availability and price of "exactly the same car" including colour and options. It will be interesting to see if they can do this ;)

Anyway I will be looking forward to a new RX8, even though it may be a dealer demo

It has beenn confirmed that the truck was unregistered, uninsured and unroadworthy, the RTA are "squirming" about how the truck was on the road.

Tony.

Gomez 10-26-2004 11:33 PM

Mate, great news that it has been written off :) . However, I don't see why you should have to settle for a demo if your policy states new for old up to two years
When you pick up your brand new car , make sure it is a 2004 build date, others have been caught out before you!

Gomez.

daz1300 10-26-2004 11:45 PM

mate,

thanks for the low-down on what happened, we can only put events like this behind us.

with the car ... try and get heaps of mazda accessories (if thats your thing) on the car, and just let the nrma you got those accessories before hand. I guess if they want to, they'll look at the car and see some of those accessories may have not been there prev.??

... but its worth the try.

thats another idea.... maybe it might help em' market the safety of the 8 in an impact...?

can never market sad unfortunate news I guess, but if its beneficial....

takahashi 10-26-2004 11:50 PM

Good news Tony... agree with Mez, not to settle with a demo car. No way. It has to be not previously registered - you have a series allergy to the sales manager, remembered? - so he cannot sit on the driver seat ;)

I am not surprise the truck is unroadworthy really....

Glad you are back to the family - I am sure you want to drive the car now but remember to break in the engine.

timbo 10-27-2004 12:47 AM

Good to hear it is ending ok for you. I'm with the others -- make sure NRMA covers a new car...

Large trucks at speed are really frightening. On one of my trips to Sydney I was overtaken by a B-Double on the downhill section of the Mittagong by-pass. I keep my cruise control at 120; he had to be doing over 130+ .... sheeeeet

Lock & Load 10-27-2004 12:50 AM

Great news Tony

EZZY 10-27-2004 12:51 AM

great news tony.... very pleased to hear that :)

nrma will/should get you a new car with whatever is on the car prior the accident (thats if all the accessories/options/aftermarket items were noted on your policy). as well as full year of rego/green slip and insurance. if you bought the car new, then there is no way you should accept a demo car ;)

pls let us know, and dont forget to get some piccys :p

Some transport companys go along way to keep trucks up to spec, safe and always monitor driver behaviour... See a truck speeding look up its company and call them up and offer the rego of the truck.

I know abit about the transport industry as my girlfriend owns a transport company with over 11 trucks.

Suprising that truck was on the road, police and the RTA have been cracking down on trucks big time lately. Unfortunatly not soon enough :(

Regards
Phillip

Tony,

Unfortunately the wording of NRMA's policy states "We will replace your vehicle with the same year, make, model, series, type of paint and colour - if it is available locally. We will replace any options or accessories fitted to your vehicle or modifications that have been made to your vehicle, provided you have notified us of the options, accessories and modifications and we have agreed to cover them and they are available locally"

This doesn't seem to mean that a brand new car is always provided. IMO their advertising seems to suggest a new car. Hopefully they are unable to source anything but a new one for ya.

Cheers,

Pappy

If this was the "litigation-happy" US of A, I bet all the victims would be suing the RTA.

tonym 10-27-2004 06:26 AM

More good news, MA have been in contact with me by email and phone and are very interested in looking at the car and its seat. They have reported the issue to Japan. They have the NRMA contact and hopefully will follow through and at least get the seat from the wreck for closer inspection and testing. We'll see what is the outcome.

Tony.

Tony

Mazda Australia /Japan would learn a lot from the wreck , hopefully the seat issue will be sorted out its a real worry it should not have snapped like that .

While you are in talks with them maybe ask them when are we getting the Mazdaspeed supercharged RX8 or even better the forthcoming 2 door RX7 .

cheers

Dont know if this has been asked ,did you have your spare wheel in the boot when you got hit up the rear ?
Would having the spare wheel have helped in the accident ?

cheers

Well you be the judge ....

Gomez 10-27-2004 10:26 PM

hahaha, another reason to dump the spare wheel....THEY'RE BAD LUCK :D :D :D

tonym 10-27-2004 10:30 PM

L7L,

"snapped" is not what I said or what happened - the upright back "collapsed" backwards till against the cushion of the rear seat. My concern is not that it went back on the adjusting ratchet under this extreme force, more that it went "all the way" back and would have contributed injuries to anyone in the back seat as well as reducing the effectiveness of the seat belt and possibly the airbag if the following frontal collissionn was great. They say they are going to look at it and I am sending all my pictures so that they can make some sort of judgement. I spoke with the NRMA "Salvage Disposal Officer" and he offered that most adjustable seats that he has seen with this sort of rear-end hit have collapsed backwards and the difference is only in how far back they go.

Tony.

Glad you're okay, shame about the car, but you have your health still :)

timbo 10-27-2004 11:06 PM

Something in the back of my memory says that a few years ago, Mercedes used to boast that after a collission, its seatbacks used to recline back to gently lower any injured person into a safer position for spine support, breathing etc.... or I could have dreamt all that

skc 10-28-2004 12:42 AM

Tony

Sorry to hear about this tragic incident. Glad to see that you are OK and also to see that the car held up so well.

Best of luck with the new car.

Looks like the spare tyre took quite a bit of the rear impact , thats one of the reasons i keep mine at the rear for protection against rear enders .

I saw the pictures on the UK owner's club forum. Pretty hard shunt. Nice to hear you walked out unhurt. I hope you'll get a brand new Hymee enHanced Titanium soon!
