Mazda factory rear fog light FITTED!!!
 

I have it fitted to my RX-8 by the dealer today. They said it is a pain to do. I have it shipped to me from Japanparts.com

It works wodnerfully. Have the DSC button changed to a dual fog light/DSC off (each occupy one half). The wiring is pain. They have to strip off the steering coloum casing & the dash board. The front-side panel next to the fuse (driver side) wire the thing thru the driver side (the plastic next to the sill plate). thru the boot and have the rear bumper off to wire and cut.
Fortunately if have factory made ALL bumper have bolt sets that ready for fitting (no drill required) ~ Well except the cutting of the rear triangle.

How much did the install cost at the dealer, I'll do the conversion. I guess you Aussie's don't get that option either, much fog over there? :confused:

I think takahashi's fog light flashes though and goes with his siren :)

Melbourne has fog in the morning especially in the summer but they are not thick. Mainly for night rain in the freeway. You see Kev my car is black and the red rear light is for protection. I am quite slow in the freeway (on 100) only fast around the corners (80) :) For Spring special I have siren put in for murder call - you see I will be a Pathology registrar next year!

Oh the dealer charge me A$200 for the foglight being fitted (6 HOUR WORK) and 22000Yen FOR THE LIGHT plus shipping - I had other small stuff to ship inc the Mazdaspeed rotary engine key ring to match the colour coded key (yet not arrived :() so the shipment is quite resonable - they only use EMS to ship - no tax as it is small.

As you can see the upper deck is for the light and lower deck is for the DSC on/off. So what the F is the outter one for then?

Isn't that for the footwell lights?

Footwell lights please explain? Is it to light up your pretty feet - NO THANKS. Otherwise I will be forced by my wife to clean shoes all the time.

200 Australian seems like a very good price for all that labor, that works out to be $145 US. I don't think I could find someone in the States who would charge the same for labor. And you paid a little over $200US for the foglight, sounds very resonable to me. I like the way it turned out.

Yes you can get a glow around you feet, but it'd be hard to tell if you're shoes were a little grubby from the pictures I've seen.

Can you take a pic of the fog light during the day - not too close, whole car please. An up close pic I saw a while back didn't look too good :)

What is this for ?

That has been left as a blank you can get a switch that fits in there ,and works ,other mazda vehicels switches are compatible with the blank.
That blank for example could be used for a switch in an aftermarket alarm type set up , anything that you needs a switch for could be placed there , the mazdas mpv has same switches , they will fit right in and be cheaper than the same switch if ordered for rx8, next time you go to the dealer have a look this blank is found in most mazda cars and the MPV .

Takahashi , instead of putting your fog light at the rear as u said to become more visible in night traffic you could always try driving home late at night in REVERSE , ha ha ha , You would certainly get noticed .

So.. now that it's in - are you driving around in the daylight with it "on" ?

I admit I probabaly would..

I drive with both the main and fog lights up front on, all the time..

I live in the hope that nobody in their right mind or wrong mind will drive into a set of bright headlights. There's logic in there somewhere.

Sometimes idiots back off when I switch on the rear fog lights... thinking that they are the brake lights :D

In your pic, are you holding the brakes? Reason I ask is that the trunk brake light is not on.. hmm

Driving with fog lights on (day or night) is illegal unless you are driving in conditions of poor visibility. I only found this out myself a few months ago in an article in the NRMA's 'open road' magazine.

Indeed, and driving behind some vehicles (BMWs come to mind) with rear fogs on when not needed is quite annoying.:mad:

The boys in blue have pulled me up on several occasions for having the fog/driving lights on... Seems a bit of waste to even have them (well in Brisbane anyway) :)

No I did not hold the brakes.

I comes on with the low beam turn on and the switch of the rear fog light on.

yea, I know it's not kosha to drive with everything lit up in the front end, but I'll say this now, nobody has ever come close to hitting me in any car I've had and I put it down to the fact that the human brain appears to have an inherent aversion to colide with fast moving bright lights!

Far too many people drive with their fog lights on during the day around Brisbane, so I'm glad the police are cracking down on it.

The RX-8 doesn't need them on to be noticed :D

They do round out the look of the front end... I'm thinking of getting some for mine just to improve the look and for long drives down south where I often visit mountainous areas where fog is much more common than here in Brissie.

This thread seems to be talking about rear fog lights that is NOT :) an option is Australia - now I can't follow what you guys are saying.

Summarize of this thread - I fitted a rear JDM fog light and showing it off... anyway I am 2 away from my 400th post!
