Oh man, don't get me started on Ford.

What do you guys reckon about this:

We bought a Ford stationwagon for use as the family truckster brand new in 2000 (AUII - I know, I know). This lemon was recalled for a few things, including the steering rack.

Was serviced recently and we were told the steering rack needed repair - to the tune of $700 plus :eek:

I'm now having a fight with the service manager over whether the recall work was actually done, whether it was done properly or whether the work specified by the factory was adequate to cure the fault.

The car has done less than 60,000 and has never been abused (except verbally!! :p ).

I think they should cover the repair.

Am I being unreasonable??

Oh please lets also give Holden a go:
2000 VT II SS 5.7 Litre back to the dealer 47 times in 3 years. 12 Pages of warranty repairs history including: 2 new difs, 1 new engine, 1 new gear box, 3 new CV couplings, 1 new steering rack and that was just the major stuff. I bought a lemon and I will never do that again. Holden and Ford can get F**ked in my opinion.

Sorry to shatter the bubble, but I had one lemon Mazda.. New engine at first service.. Squillion things wrong with it, most I blame on the dealer :mad:, with the last straw occuring when the exhaust system fell off.. It was traded a week later (2.5 years old) and I have never been back to that dealer.. Of the four Mazdas we have owned over the past ten years (knock on wood for this one) that car was the only one that has given me any trouble... :(

I don't think you can tar all cars from one manufacturer with the same brush just because you've had a bad experience (or a good one). That said I certainly know where you're coming from.

Oh and I don't know why I'm posting this here but if you're in the market for a ford/holden with factory gas fitted - stay well clear of the commodore. We've got a number of vehicles at work (VZ / VY) on gas are they have had no end of problems. The falcons we've had have been fine and one in particular (my old company car AU falcon) which I flogged on a daily basis and never gave an ounce of trouble.

149 was this years rating, but last years was 118 (above industry avg)...Maybe that explains the rise in complaints?

Taken in context, Mazda released its 4th BRAND new car in 4 years...thats going to affect these things in comparison to those manufacturers who have 7 and 8 year old designs.

Good point.

One and a half problems per car sounds high, but it doesn't elaborate on what the 'problems' were.

When I look back at the 18 months or more that I've had my 8 there have been several problems that affected most of the cars from that period, including:

    I also had to remove, clean and reseat a front wheel to fix the "click, click" problem that was common enough to warrant a bulletin from Mazda.

    Apart from the flooding, which was a major pain and completely unexpected, these weren't a big deal. And all of it could be described as the sort of teething troubles that usually happen with new models once they hit the mass market.

    At the same time we also bought one of the last of the Mazda 323 Astinas for my wife, and that has been completely trouble free. As Andrew suggests, that was a well proven old model.

    So will my next Mazda be 100% trouble free, stastically - or did my wife's good luck cancel out the teething troubles with my 8?? :D :rolleyes:
