Green filter installed last night.

Installed the green oem replacement filter last night. Took me half hour to installed, but I didn't know what I was doing. I can tell you whatever Mazda say in the user manual is not true, I had to disconnect the air hose and then it just opened up enough gap to perform the swap.

On the drive to work this morning the car felt a little livelier and more responsive. Could be my head or any new air filter will do that because it is clean, but as long as I feel happy it is investment well spent.

Just waiting for the Hymee exhaust, should be soon. :D

how much was the replacement and where you buy it ?

green filter should run about $55. you can get it from green, from one of their distro places, or ebay.

To get the air filter out, you just grab it at the front, and push the entire unit towards the rear of the car, and lift up. Search and there is a post about it. Once you understand how it opens, it's quite easy. I didn't know when I installed my filter, so I disconnected the air hose, and managed to open it a slight bit to swap filters. What a hassle

Who in Australia stocks this filter? Price?

takahashi 11-03-2004 03:24 AM

I wonder what the difference between the green and Mazdaspeed sport filter? :)

$55 US is only about $30 more for the MazdaSpeed one.... I can hear the intake noise now. Not as loud as K&N hehe :)

et381 11-03-2004 03:46 AM

I paid a fair bit more than $55. It was $150 AUD shipped with 10% discount from autospeed.

Dunno what's the difference between green and MazdaSpeed, but it was about half the thickness of the stock one I took out.

takahashi 11-03-2004 03:57 AM

I have the MazdaSpeed one (about the same price). $130 plus shipment.

The MS one is very thin too and much lighter in weight than the red stock one. MazdaSpeed claims 10% better air flow - what the heck does this mean? I dunno :)

I have the K&N air filter $119 from autobarn
cannot feel any improvement but the engine breathes better

 I think you just contradicted yourself.
Did you mean you haven't felt any "performance" improvement?

takahashi 11-03-2004 04:40 AM

NJ... FYI. No filter = 4ps gain.

K&N is good. But I am not taking it out every 10000km to clean it. The dealer will dust the paper filter every 10k for me for $10 extra.

 Where does it say you have to clean it every 10000kms?

takahashi 11-03-2004 04:58 AM

Is that what it said on all oil based K&N filter. There is a kit to clean it with. I had K&N before. I can change the bucket of water from clear to dark with a filter doing 10000km - traffic drive.

Since K&N can be reused, better to keep it as clean as possble

RXE16T 11-03-2004 05:08 AM

K&N actually state that you can shorten the filter's lifespan by "overcleaning".
Their recommended cleaning interval for normal driving is 50000 miles.

http://www.knfilters.com/facts.htm#SINTERVAL

As for your "bucket" test, it doesn't take much to turn water dark.......

takahashi 11-03-2004 05:32 AM

50000 miles - ok. My last K&N filter was in my Civic - 6 years ago. Time is different I guess but 10000km clean for me is about once a year - so why not!

mikeyr 11-04-2004 12:32 AM

Taka,

Where exactly did you buy your filter? Japanparts? How long do they last, ie are they cleanable like the green ones / K&N or disposable?

Cheers

takahashi 11-04-2004 01:13 AM

mike

Yes I bought it from Japanparts, together with other parts. They are not cleanable and last about 3-50000km. They are replacable as per stock. But 3-50000km, it is long time for me. You can dust it with a feather duster every 10000km to make it last a touch longer ;)

Thanks Taka! Have a mate in Tokyo that can bring down for me.

I ordered my Green Filter Monday from AutoPartsWarehouse.Com , $59.60 plus free shipping ... waiting for that big brown truck to stop in front of my house ! Since they are in NJ figure it will be middle of next week . I do however have a question .... I read in a few threads about people doing the pully sets , green filter with the "M" flash , they were having problems with the CEL coming on and so they disconnected the battery and pump the brake pedel to reset the ECU . Couple of people said that when they installed the green filter , it took the ECU a couple of days to "catch-up" to the mod . Would it help to disconnect the battery after I install it ? Thanks , DrR
