Goodbye Yellow...

Dear friends,

The sad day finally arrived. I sold the 8 yesterday, to someone quite close to you all (I'll leave him to identify himself!).

Another big move is on the horizon. Leah and I are moving to the UK for a few years, working for my company in London. It'll be strange to return there, after 23 years living in Oz!

I've thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years of fun with the 8. Spent far too much money, but it was worth it! Meeting all of you folks, online and face to face, has been a wonderful bonus. Keep up the good work!

It's been a gas...:wavey:

Will

Revolver 04-29-2008 04:54 PM

Cheers Will,

Best of luck with the move 'home' and let us know if you get back in a rotary once you're in the UK.

erx8s 04-29-2008 05:03 PM

Good luck with the trip to London Will , and congrats on the sale of your Yellow baby .

Having a punt here in guessing your car was purchased by............. Rick Shaw it would be cool to see a racing RX8 in Yellow

Cheers
Michael

Detrich 04-29-2008 07:27 PM

u should've shipped it back to england. yellow 8's are hard to come by.

jormatom 04-29-2008 10:48 PM

Hey Will.

All the best with the move back to the UK. Keep in touch and let us know how you are.

For those of you wondering who has the "yellow peril" now, well it's not me.

It's my brother!!!:Eyecrazy: :Eyecrazy:

Cheers

Will, best of luck, least you are heading out of the cold into the ........ hang on...... take the woolies with you just in case!!

Be interested to see what you pick up in the UK!! Slightly different equation with cheaper european cars and higher fuel prices!! (about $2.40 a litre!!)
Good luck with the move
Mike

Bumble_Bee 04-30-2008 06:52 PM

I'm sure it was hard...

I can't imagine saying Good-bye to my Yellow... :(

yellowrx8inoz 05-01-2008 06:13 AM

It was hard, Bee...

I couldn't watch him drive it away!

Don't worry Will. It's in good hands.

All the cars and Harleys he has owned have been kept in immaculate condition. He has already arranged for the nose and other minor battle scars to be repaired and resprayed.

Don't worry Macca, I'm working on it. I've done the first 3 so I don't want to miss one.

timbo 05-02-2008 12:18 AM

Always a sad day when you sell your 8, Will...but hey, at least it sounds like it's gone to a good home (but then I recall the Avdoulos boys had a...er....'troubled' adolescence when it came to cars :eyetwitch )

Anyway, once you get to the UK, with fuel prices at $2.40+ AND living in London...you'll soon conclude there's only one car to get...the Polo GTI (of, course, that rationalisation means I have no excuse!)

Hmmmm....on reflection, you might also want to look at the hot Clio...and the Abarth Fiats could be fun, either the 500 or the Punto...then there's some of the hot diesels we don't see.............................:uhh: :squint:

You wouldn't happen to be talking about the blown 351 falcon would you? :)

The key word here timbo is "adolescence". We have grown up and matured since then. :eyetwitch

Although, a phone call I received this afternoon from my brother suggests some forced induction engine mods are in the offering for ol' YELRX.

Looks like the "yellow peril" will soon be the "yellow blur"

Oh jeez...

If it's done before I go, I bags the first non-owners' drive! Otherwise book me in when I'm back on shore leave...

Thanks timbo - we're also selling an Eos before we go, so we've sampled VW's latest offerings (he says, risking derision from Revolver).

A supermini of some sort will probably do the job in the UK!

Sounds good; adding to the colourful rainbow of FI 8's appearing in Victoria! We have reds, blue, black, "purple" and potentially yellow. Anyone with a white contender out there?

:Eyecrazy: :Eyecrazy: :wavey:

Hahaha, that's okay Will - horses for courses. And we all buy VW's as we get older it seems...:p: :rollingla :rollingla

Besides, it's so grey and miserable over there it doesn't matter!

(was just speaking to my sis and bro in law on skype this morning - they're living in Primrose Hill atm and were whining about the rain  :) ).

xatnep 05-04-2008 04:58 AM

Bye Will

Thanks for the yellow memories and good luck with the move, what is happening to the Suzuki?

Thanks Stu, the Cappuccino's going into storage for a while until we decide how long we'll be in London (and also where we might go after that!).

jormatom 05-21-2008 09:08 PM

I heard the sweet sound of ol' YELRX with her new "enhancements" last night and I'm hoping to take her out for spin tonight.

Will keep you posted.

Hey Greg,

Bring it to Jell's Park on Sunday! :)

jormatom 07-07-2008 09:56 PM

Update on the "Yellow Peril"

Battle scars have all been tended to with a respraay of boot lid, nose etc so externally its looking a million bucks.

Internally under the bonnet? Well what can I say.

After some fine tuning by Simon @ Promaz to my brothers handy work - 200kw at the rear wheels and running as smooth as silk.

I took it for a spin on Sunday night. WOW!!! Now it has the grunt to match those killer looks.

Cheers

Greg

And will the eggplant special be joining miss yellow in the land of forced airflow??

As a result of discussions with the family director of operations on the above matter, I am currently spending my evenings on the living room couch.

The "Aubergine Machine" has had a touch up of sorts - I managed to score the original rear spoiler off Wills car then my brother bought me the side trims and new front spoiler as well.

The credit cards took a hammering in Europe so I will need time for them to recover before I think of doing anything.:dammit:

Revolver 07-08-2008 11:41 PM

 I'm in front for a change but I know I only have a limited amount of time before 'er indoors spends it on renovating the new digs, so I'm trying to decide whether spare rims and semi slicks are worth the bother...

matt13b 07-09-2008 12:18 AM

As much as I would like to stay ahead of you at the track Dave I think Semi's would be a great investment for you and you would be posting some serious times there with them..

Revolver 07-09-2008 06:32 PM

Cheers Matt but you run out of excuses the more mods you make. :uhh:

And I'm trying to decide if it's worth it for 2-3 track days a year...

If your answer is to track more, can you speak with 'er indoors for me...:uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :banghead: :lol2:

matt13b 07-10-2008 12:16 AM

I understand Dave..I was actually about to snap up those 2 tyres for sale in the above thread but I guess I should help the crashed RX2 guy get up and running again.I do think Wakefield should put up the cost after putting in those ridiculous ripple strips!
I also wonder how much the RENEW guys would pitch in if you or I wrote our cars off???

A reasonable question Matt but just sling him some cash like I did and sleep sounder at night knowing you're a good bloke ;) . I do get the impression we're tolerated as owning lesser examples of the balls out rotors they pedal so furiously but at the same time they've been nothing but welcoming and friendly to me.

If you live by the standards set by others (real or imagined) you'll always shortchange yourself and those around you.

As to Wakefield's liability, nobody told him to hit the ripple strip. I avoided it all day without too many problems. Just a pecadillo of the track you need to accommodate. Hopefully they rethink the size and shape of it though...

I agree and all true Dave.

MACCAA 07-10-2008 07:10 AM

If memory serves me,I specifically singled out that ripple strip on the day and advised you to keep well away from it......
Cheers
Len

Revolver 07-10-2008 04:59 PM

Yes, you did and like a good little grasshopper I checked it out first lap and thought "that's bloody good advice!"...

generis 07-10-2008 07:35 PM

Where exactly on the track is this ripple strip? Just so I know to be wary in future:squint: as I haven't driven there since the resurfacing.

Cheers

Revolver 07-11-2008 02:37 AM

Lefthander as you're heading up the hill...

generis 07-13-2008 06:24 PM

Ah huh, thanks
