Fuel Economy

That got your attention didn't it.

I have absolutely no complaints about the economy of this car.

I just did a return trip to Sydney. Another 2300km. 6000 in 2 months with this car.

Best economy Halfway Creek (between Coffs Harbour and Grafton) to the Ayres Rock roadhouse near Karuah. 10.1 l/100km. Drove in the usual Pacific Hwy fashion with Cruise at + 8kmh and overtook at whatever was necessary elsewhere.
Single digit fuel economy and 600km per tank would be easy to achieve on flat straight roads.

Return trip via Thunderbolts Way - New England - Bruxner highways. 937km according to my GPS.
15.5 l/100kmh, a great figure considering the time I spent in lower gears.

Thunderbolts Way is one of the great drives. Winding mountain sections , about 40 km of wide long sweepers and about 50km of straights with near unlimited visibility.

lol Yes it got my attention!!!!!!!

Sounds good, I'm more interested in photos from your trip :) Havent been to those places, seems nice tho!

Highway driving will always yield lower consumption numbers! Now to make it the same for city driving lol!

Simple!

Drive on the shoulder and ignore stop signs and traffic lights. If you don't get caught you'll get decent mileage. If you do get caught you'll still save lots on gas.

Revolver 04-04-2007 08:53 PM

Agreed about Thunrderbolts Way.

I also love the roads around Dorrigo, etc.

Brettus 04-04-2007 08:56 PM

thats never going to happen here - our longest straight bit of road is on a racetrack ........LOL

FishoftheWeek 04-05-2007 12:21 AM

Really? I'm moving.

Will need to buy a Fraser and some driving gloves first though :ylsuper:

Cromax 04-05-2007 12:32 AM

I reckon if we went with a turbo kit we'd have better economy all round ... wouldn't we?

I like your thinking..in rally terms that's called FREESTYLE driving...I might give it a go this weekend

Nah only joking but how many of you have wanted to do the slalom through the cones they put up for road works?? Huh Huh??? Well next time I see them I'm gonna do it  As long as they don't paritition off wet tar!! :Eyecrazy:

they are fixing roads in SA??? here they setup the cones and then go for a smoko. :Freak_ani j/k. lots of roadwork here but because of the traffic, it's impossible to move let alone weave through the cones.

BTW in hilly short trips around the north shore of sydney, i have yet to break the 300km per tank. of course, i've had the car for a little over 2 years now and havent hit the 13,000km mark :boring:

thisllub 04-05-2007 03:29 PM

I filled the car last night. 419 km 53 litres. 12.6 l/100.
My 15.5 was an estimate off the fuel gauge.
Even using half a tank driving around Sydney, half on a trip to the Blue Mountains I got 450km.

I havent tried the cones but I did weave between the centre lines on the M2.

Wet tar? Extra grip!

DrewMan 04-09-2007 09:59 AM

just got back from a trip down to shellharbour and back

400km round trip

just under half a tank left

used shell v power

MissyK 04-09-2007 06:01 PM

only very slightly!

TurboEight 04-10-2007 12:14 AM

OMG....i envy you guyz....how can you guyz get so much outta the tank?

i use 94octane and still getting 380KM...and my needle was UNDER the E!!

MissyK 04-10-2007 12:26 AM

maybe because u have a turbo and we dont ;)

Cromax 04-10-2007 07:05 AM

Well, I reckon the turbo would add efficiency if it's set up right.

We have had a month of madness where our little country town is bursting at the seams and they go and dig all the main roads in the city up! Absolute Madness...my GPS is on the blink as it wants to take me over bridges they have pulled down and down roads that are blocked off. BTW I only use GPS in adelaide to cut down my kms.....I know I'm mad!!

I have lots of opportunities to weave between the cones at the moment!!

Extra grip!! YIKES and pained expression on drivers face...SS and wet bitumen don't mix. I have been known to do a 3 point turn in front of traffic to avoid wet bitumen, much to the exasperation of my passenger who didn't know what all the fuss was about.... :cwm27: But she drives a Jeep and so that explains it all!! :hahano:

Steve's 8 04-10-2007 08:41 AM

I've had my 8 for almost a year now and during normal commute driving, I average right at 18 mi/gal.....which according to my converter, that's about 7.7 km/l.

that 462 per 60L tank..

=(....what is wrong with my 8, turbo or not, i shouldn't be getting 370km a tank...and you guyz getting liek 400 just a little bit more then half a tank.

*ENvy*

thisllub 04-10-2007 05:26 PM

400km would be about right for city driving. 370 is less than 10% penalty for the turbo, a device designed to allow you to burn more fuel.
Try open highway cruising and see how you go.

Rotor Convert 04-11-2007 05:06 AM

Well not that I care but for interests sake on this topic. I drove 139kms and then added 16litres into the tank this afternoon as I noticed that the ever present PRICE GOUGE on fuel is occuring again.

16 litres = 1/4 of a tank on my guage.

I have been hoofing it around town a bit so that will skew the figures somewhat.

Instead of talking about fuel economy what about the cost of the bloody stuff!! It's gone to 1.36/lt here in SA in the last 4 hours. I got my 16litres at 1.26 for stoopid Shell V Powa as it was the only pump free at a busy servo.... :cwm27: How can fuel jump from 1.16 to 1.34!! WTF. What is the ACCC doing about this? Nuttin.... :spank:

Cromax 04-11-2007 07:33 AM

Yeah, wtf is with that? I wish the fuckers would start mining the shale oil out of Canada ...

... I'm really getting sick of these stupid arabs dictating what we pay for oil!

Sorry if I sound a bit brash, but that's how I feel ... I have a tendancy to say what I feel ... and this is something that really shits me, not only from a personal level, but from my patriotic stars and jack point of view ... it's not very good for our economy to have petrol prices up for too long ... it'll drive up inflation.
