Engine/Chassis Ground Cable Set

Merry Christmas from Darwin guys. I thought I'd draw your attention to an interesting thread in the Vendors Forum about the benefits of installing the Mazda Engine/Chassis Ground Cable Set. (hopefully this hasn't already been discussed!!) :)

The thread can be picked up here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=16989

Reported improvements after installation include improved throttle response, mileage, power, and smoothness. The reasons why are covered in the above thread.

Has anyone tried this out yet? It looks simple to build or if you have the cash, order from Canzoomer or Mazda. The claimed benefits seem worth the $20 or so worth of parts.

I'm going to make up and install a harness and I'll post my results with pics of course. :D

and Merry Christmas to you in the Wet North ;)

Hey, this looks interesting, and is the type of mod I would look at trying. The comments in the original thread about voltage drops affecting the ECU etc ring true from something I read a while ago.

But I am conservative by nature (as conservative as an 8 owner can be :p ) so I will be interested to learn of your experience.

It's the type of 'homebrewed' mod, along with Hymee's grill and now cat-back, that makes these forums so valuable.

The fact that canzoomer has identified it makes it more credible, IMO, as he has contributed a lot of technical knowledge. Thanks for passing it on.

I'd definately be willing to give this a try if someone made the wires for me with instructions for installing them, ala the Hymee grill. Could be a nice business on the side if someone is motivated...

I'm afraid that I wouldn't have a clue how to make these myself, but I am still a willing guinea pig.

Check out this link Wildcard: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=14728 The first pic you will come across is the completed set, then a simple schematic, then 8 pages of the Japanese install instructions. I printed up the schematic and the instructions. Even though they are in Japanese, It's quite easy to see where the ground wires need to go and where to secure them in the engine bay. Apparently the Chassis earth points are quite obvious when you stick your head in the engine bay. Page 2 of the above thread will show you what it looks like installed in Canzoomer's engine bay. Good Luck! :D

One question, why is there a copyright notice on Canzoomer's drawing, yet the Japanese pages have been reproduced?

Hmmm?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Maybe if the copyright notice on the other pics is in Japanese and you can't read it, then it doesn't count! <grin>

Thanks for that Rotor Head. I'm happy that I could sort out the install ok from those instructions, however I would be way out of my depth trying to make those wires myself.

I am happy to say that I did my own "home grown" version on the Cosmo. Cost around $30 in gold plated connectors & heavy gauge speaker wire.

Result was smoother running & throttle response. Haven't noticed any power gains (suspect they are minimal)

How is the RX8 Handling the heat and highway in the Territory? We took our motorbikes for a run up there 12 months ago, highway speeds on the bike were very fast.

Interested to know how the 8 will handle sitting at high speed for an extended period of time?

Have you gotten it onto the track at hidden valley yet? We did a track day there on the bikes, it was the best experience!
