Catalytic convertor died..
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
My car has been having issue revving above 6500rpm, I first thought the problem was because 1 of the O2 sensors being dead, but one night, after a night cruise at the royal national park, i realised it was not just the O2 sensor casuing the problem... the entire CAT & sensor glowed !! :Eyecrazy: Attachment 273282 Attachment 273283 any 'cost-efficient' solutions that you can please recommend me?? Thank you very much. |
warranty?

warranty is gone already..

well then the most cost efficient thing to do is punch out the inside of the cat and run it that way. that'll solve your problem and doesn't cost anything

Custom cats can be made by a half decent exhaust shop for around $800 or so. Beats paying Mazda $2500 for a new one. |
nothing is too hard with a long screwdriver and a BFH (Big F****** Hammer)

Australia is the home of some 100 cel/inch high flow cats. You may want to consider this option.

I had the same problem with my '03, Substrate collapsed.
Punchin out the the guts of a cat would be illegal in Aus, so i had a temp put in and repalcement O2 sensor. Use it as a good excuse to significant others for a mod. I was planning on going for this later myself when I have spare money. http://www.smb.net.au/fullexhaustsystems-mazdarx8.htm |
i had the same problem with mine, couldnt rev past 6500rpm for a while, just drove it hard for a little while until the cat. had totally burnt itself out and now i get same power as before and full revs (upto the 10,000rpm limiter). just keep driving it upto the max revs it'll let you until it clears itself. or you could go pay alot of money for a new one, or you could try fixing it yourself.
good luck :) |
