here's an interesting logger for engine diagnostics.

it is very competitively priced, so I hope it's compatible with the rx8.

Hymee has one already bless his soul

scanalyser

rotarenvy 05-02-2007 03:25 AM

yeah but it's expensive and you need the laptop in the car.

auzoom 05-03-2007 12:10 AM

depends what you want to do with it. Scanalyser is for live diagnostics. This device isnt. I cant be 100% if thats the right J1850 protocol for the RX-8 though. Left a message with Ecowatch to confirm.

Just got a call back :) I am heading over there Tuesday next week to do a test run! Will keep you up to date.

I got scanalyser around the same price.

There is even a cheaper version, but does not do logging. Some Mazda 3 boys using it for their cars but I found the display is rather primitive.

I have not used the stuff for a while now. I may just sell it.

I know the scanalyser is a wonderful device but the only additional functionality it provides is the ability to clear warning codes, and has manufacture specific codes. real-time is useless for me as I can't drive and look at numbers on a laptop sitting on the passenger seat. real-time logging is all I would use.

really all I want in a scan tool is to read cell codes once I have forced induction.

Just for your info:

Bought a CAN OBDII Scan Tool (Geniscan GS300) by Autel.
Was on special at Jaycar $129.

Appears to work fine. Picked same error codes as the workshop's expensive scanner & was able to clear error code as well as look at VIN etc.
