CalID read from scan tool
Hooray,
I finally overcame a hardware / software glitch that was preventing me from reading "multiple message responses" from the CAN on-board diagnostics via a CAN-RS232 diagnostic interface. I now know my PCM's calibration ID is N3J6EG00013H6050 I could also read my full VIN number. This breakthrough is important as not being able to read multiple message responses was holding me back on a scan-tool project, and a PCM re-programming tool project. It should also allow a much faster update frequency for datalogging, which will be great for tuning efforts. Yeah! Previously: N3J6-18881-E Some help me where I posted the exact ID from the WDS when I got the reflash. Perhaps it is on my scrap of paper somewhere. Bad Hymee http://www.hymee.com/smilies/sm_slap.gif Gomez!! Sco!! Cheers, Happy Hymee. |
good work hymee!
are you going to be releasing this tool? |
That is the plan :)
Probably a PocketPC version first ;) Cheers, Hymee. |
do laptop first or I will be forced to liberate works pocketPC :(
|
It depends who codes quicker; me or mystery man ;)

Damn... I was beaten again in the "search" race. Good game sco
|
Didn't know I was racing... had I known I'd have been even quicker :p

Yeah, I found that one. But that was the "E" flash. I'm wrote down the G flash one, but I can't find it. No winners yet ;) Cheers, Hymee. |
Hymee, I had a good look.....I can't find it!
Congratulations on your breakthrough though! Will this research ultimately allow you to clear stored codes? The next step is your own flash? If we can read all the codes, it will allow those with Hymee's software the ability to diagnose their own cars faults.....and maybe reduce their reliance on Mazda's WDS. Great news for further down the track when the car is out of warranty...... Gomez. |

Great news for further down the track when the car is out of warranty...... Gomez. Clear codes. YES Own Flash. YES Ultimately. There is a long way to go before then. But that is my motivator. There are thing around to do the first 2, but I like home grown stuff. I started ages ago, and have spent a long time learning. Some others have the jump on me. But I would like to offer a single hardware interface that can be used for logging, code reading/clearing and re-flashes. Cheers, Hymee. |
Oh okay, I wasn't aware that it was possible to clear codes without WDS......still, good to hear we aren't far away from a local product :D . And a cheaper one, I'm sure....?!
|
Hymee Enhanced... I pick 2 out of these three metrics for my products.
Price, Quality, Time. What 2 do you think I work to ? :) Cheers, Hymee. PS - should be able to clear the codes. I need to do more reading... If the WDS can send the correct "code" to do it, why can't anything else "spoof" it? OK - Just found it, to make sure. I thought I had seen it before. "Clear/Reset Emission-Related Diagnostic Information" in the SAE spec. http://www.hymee.com/smilies/sm_dance.gif Standard scan-tool functionality :D |
hymee the one other scan tool i know about that can read the calibration level is over $800 USD. i have very limited knowledge on this yet as i havent pursued it but- being able to read the calibration level should give you access to some other things on the "mode 9" (i dont know what these things are yet) level and the "as built" data. if you can access this as built data then you can turn some pcm functions on and off. for instance the uk doesn't have cruise control but the software and wiring is already there. if they had a steering wheel with the proper buttons on it all that needs to be done is "flip the switch" in the as built data and then they have cruise control. not to meation the tuning capability :)
sorry i dont have any more info on this "mode 9" stuff when i find out anything i will let you know. |
Hi Hymee,
I am thinking about investing in a laptop. Are you selling this at this stage? If so what sort of money are you talking about? Plus if I put my hard earned out there do I get updates as the tool is improved? Cheers |
Is there a chance for a rentsmart option? :D
|
What about if the software was free? You could download the latest version whenever you wanted??

Well done Hymee, the intellectual effort people like you are putting into the RX8 make me glad I bought the car. Count on me for support when your product is ready! :)

Update
First North American Test: SUCESS!
Yesterday I was able to do some testing of the prototype scan tool offering that sco and I are partnering to provide under the HymeeEnhanced brand. I connected to "rxeighter"s Winning Blue RX-8 fired up the software, fired up the engine. The digital dahsboard with way cool gauges sprang into life. Wend for a drive and could see how well the RX-8 maintains ideal AFR in "closed-loop", and how pig rich it was running at "WOT" / open-loop conditions. Could also read the VIN of the car, and the CalID of his car. We confirmed it was indeed an "M" flash. The "Alabama Slammer" was mightly impressed. I've got some pics etc I'll post in due course. Cheers, Hymee. |
For pics and the thread started by rxeightr, please see here:

That is KISS ASS
I will take one. Is there a chance for oil and water temp measured? Is the one you tested in US is in PC notebook? I have a Sony Palm OS 5 system. Is that on your developer's card? More importantly, how do we use this information? |
Water temp is definitely possible - the top left dial in the picture Hymee posted is the current coolant temperature. There is no feed from the engine computer for oil temperature (that we know of). I'm looking into other options for that - possibly an extra sensor you can fit to your car and plug into your computer.

Fantastic Hymee, put me down for one! Being able to flash my own '8' would be great as the only Mazda dealer in Darwin seems to be incapable/unwilling.
Keep up the good work. :) |
Hymee,
This looks great (just like my Hymee-Enhanced exhaust does, but in software). You say a PPC with serial connect, but lots of PPC varients have "unique" connectors. I wold love to add this new function to my wonderfully fleible XDA (Mobile + PDA) but would you have a cable/adaptor to suit this? Tony. |
