I've seen this a few times now over the course of a number of months.

I doubt it will ever work for the following reasons:

1. Apathy - most people buy petrol like they buy groceries (and indeed buy it at the same place since the Coles v Woolies petrol stoush). They go to the most convenient place and consider themselves too time poor to drive five minutes further away just to make a point.

2. Wealth - although nobody likes paying more for fuel, the simple fact is that most of us can afford it. Might mean taking longer to save up for that wide screen telly (or longer paying off the credit card) but we always manage to pay for petrol no matter what it costs.

3. Supply - The oil companies are spending billions trying to increase the supply rate and still can't keep up - and just wait till China really becomes motorised. It's not like they're sitting on some huge stockpile. It's basic economics that when something is in shortish supply the price will go up instead of come down.

4. Taxes - The government continues to get by far the largest slice of our petrol dollar and then instead of spending it on things that favour the motorist (like better national highways), honest John and his mates build themselves a little fort at Canberra and fly around the world playing at being important statesmen.

5. RON - I'm guilty - I buy BP because it is the only outlet anywhere near me that sells 98RON fuel and I believe the 8 likes it better than something with a lower RON (I appreciate others may disagree).

Like it or not people, the only way you'll ever really save is ride or pushbike or buy a Prius (even the name is fugly).

Agreed i never argue about the price of entertainment good food wine or the best petrol for my baby :)

I am already buying fuel on Thursday in Melbourne. I never pay fuel for higher price and there are virtually 10 outlets in my area so competition is fierce. There are 1 outlet, in particular, is 0.7 cents lower than other constantly. So people gathers there every Thursday for fuel.

Shell Optimax is what I am using. They are ok.

I rarely use BP and never use Mobil. I found Caltex is good for my old Camry and I was advised to use Optimax when my car got tuned.

I was ROFLMAO reading your post for a guy who has spent probably in excess of $10,000 on different aftermarket mods for your car you are prepared to try and save 0.7 cents every thursday .LOL

You don't want to pay extra when you don't have to right?

I always watch carefully on bills and when and how much to pay. Although it is a small sum at the end, you have to make sure that you don't pay unnecessary on bank fee and being overcharged for anything.

0.7 cents is that station cf the others. Thursdays price can be cheaper than Saturdays by as much as 12 cents per litre :eek: ! Plus I save $2.50 each tank per vocher. Therefore, I make sure I have 2 vouchers per $60 spending I do in Coles.... split the transcations into 2 or even 4 and use free credit card and not to have fees (most cards are free for doctors:D)


I am sure the money I save on fuel. I would have paid for my short shifter.

My dad brought me up saying that you have to spend what you earn, but spend it smartly and wisely. So I learn how to bargin very early on.

I sounds like a domestice wife now ... so it is time to shut up.:p

I think Taka just demonstrated why he had $10K to spend on mods and I don't!

I can't even get it together to bother with frequent flyer points let alone supermarket vouchers.
