battery relocation
 

this is my version of a battery relocation. :cool:

I was initially going to build something like the .jp kits. unfortunately after I had a closer look at them they don't appear to have enough fittings for all the pumps and sensors. since I have the leather pack with headlight washers I can't just delete that pump as it would make the car unroadworthy.

I designed my own washer reservoir and battery mount keeping all the std pumps and sensors in the std positions to suit the small pulse and odyssey batteries. the pulse has proven to be very good at starting the car but the odysseys has slightly more CCA's if your in a cold climate. I still have to re-wire the battery and I'm hoping to use the std wire runs so it is easy to revert back to normal if necessary.

I have to thank my friend who makes most of my parts, since without his skills, my ideas would never become reality. he spent many hours of his free time proto-typing and constructing this for me. :D: :icon_tup:

Looks good. Is this a mod purely designed to centralise/reduce the battery weight?

Are they underdrive pulleys I see there? Notice any benefits/drawbacks with them?

weight reduction, to potentialy make room for other stuff and I just like these small batteries.

the battery is higher than std (bad) further from the mid line of the car (bad).
although it is behind the front wheels (good) and weight's less. the washer bottle weighs the same as the plastic one and has 1kg less water (still far more capacity than the .jp designs). overall there is a small weight reduction and no noticable change in handling.

the pulleys were an impulse purchase, they just matched the winning blue. lol


I'm leaning towards the knightsport SC kit but I don't like their intercooler, so the space may end up being used for a water/air set-up.

Can i ask you why you prefer the knightsport SC over the pettit racing one ?( i know they are having tuning issues etc i have been reading the posts ) ....

Were can i get the info on the knightsport sc kit ?

Cool stuff Jarl. I want to do the same at some stage. People relocate for the reason of less heat in that area too.

it real depends on what your after. the pettit kit looks great, unfortunately it's in the US. it is already expensive and I would have to pay import duties.

I'm not sure that a positive displacement SC is what I want for my driving style. it would be good for off the line but tapers off at the top end. I have been told by a rotary expert that a PD SC doesn't really suit the rotaries air requirements. hence the good power down low and disappointing results up top. size the sc bigger or overdrive it for more top end and the are probably problems with poor efficiency and packaging. additionally lowdown torque and hard launches place considerable strain on the clutch drive transmission and train. I'm worried about the durability of these parts already.

the one thing I like about the rx-8 is that I can mash the loud pedal out of corners and not have to feed power on gently with the worry the back end will break traction and spin (I'm not the best driver out there). the KS supercharger is centrifugal and boost will build gradually. I'm yet to see good information on what the kit really does but I would like some boost from 4-5k rpm and build to 300hp+ at the topend. hopefully this would give a nice linear power delivery that feels stronger than std from 4-5k rpm and is just as good as turbos and pd sc's once shifting between 6-8k rpm.

Ok i understand your reasoning on the superchargers :) isnt Rotormasters a centrifugal supercharger ? have you driven one of their cars ?

I've driven a Rotormaster car and found the power buildup to be very smooth and gradual. Would definitely suit someone who likes that rather than a turbo-like lowend punch.

Kinda feels like the stock car but with the power you wish it had.

in country QLD i'm not able to drive either the rotarmaster or Knightsports kit without traveling 1000's of km. the knightsports kit seems to be good value at $7K-$8K.
I wouldn't buy a procharger for other reasons.

Does the knightsport kit come with engine management for that price ?

I'm fairly certian it does but they were some round figures I pulled from memmory so check with fdracer for the real cost.
