Battery question??

Has anyone tried to get a dry cell battery for their RX8? I tried optima, odyssey and pulse batteries in my car today and none of them would fit up to my terminals properly? Or,has anyone moved their battery(under front seat or boot)??

Why do you want to change the style of battery...?

I want a lighter battery.I know it's fussy but every kilo counts..

rotarenvy 01-29-2008 03:35 AM

I used a small pules in the std location with a wooden booster block:lol: the stickers have faded over the last 3 months but the pules battery has never failed to start the car.
not a great setup but it was a temporary thing. a very simple mount could be made for the std location getting rid of the battery box or cutting it if you preferred.

Just get an extention bar.

matt13b 01-29-2008 04:05 AM

It was the terminal points that were in the wrong spot and around the wrong way..

auzoom 01-29-2008 04:23 AM

I will look which one I have. Its sealed but its heavy as hell.

rotarenvy 01-29-2008 04:24 AM

with the small battery the terminal side didn't matter. from memory I could just get the length out of the std terminals to fit the pulse on a booster block. without the block the terminals sat to low in the std battery box and the cables didn't reach.

yeah you don't save much weight because of the metal jackets on most automotive gell cells

Matt, if you want to save a lot of weight why dont you remove the back seats and all the crap lining the boot?

cos you also don't want to loose functionality; and foam doesn't weigh much.

Matt, next time I see you, I expect you to have zero body fat, otherwise you're just kidding yourself with this battery stuff. :)

neither would changing a battery ?

matt13b 01-29-2008 11:25 PM

you defiantly save weight with lighter batteries. They weigh just 5.65 kilos.Anyway,I get hell from everyone who knows me as I have stripped all of my cars beyond believe,I cant help it. I love light cars.People say this or that dont matter but the total does and they all add up.Anyway it's my only vice,I could be on crack. My bodyweight is also a freaky thing that i think about.I tell my fat mates when they take the car for a drive that it would have been a better drive if they watched what they ate. See if I am wearing a watch on the next cruise Dave. The seats are only still in the back because my wife wont let me take them out..

auzoom 01-30-2008 03:25 AM

Those back seats weigh 25kg's or something stupid like that...Ask taka.

Btw my battery is an Optima Yellow Top 650CCA. Its not lightweight but its sealed.

rotarenvy 01-30-2008 06:15 AM

not quite 25 kg

Hahaha! Great answer.

We'll start doing skin fold tests at cruises.

takahashi 01-30-2008 07:55 PM

it is 15kg or 13 in my scale

auzoom 01-31-2008 02:58 AM

lol why is your scale different taka?

EDIT: DOH! just got it :p: No I actually thought it was 25, but it must have been something else.
