Aus forum milestones

Anyone who makes 6,000 posts is a huge effort, and Kal is poised for glory on 5,987...she deserves a medal!:ylsuper:

Mind you, Taka sitting at 8,542 is also a huge effort and I reckon it won't be long before we're celebrating his 10,000th!

Auzoom is knocking on 2,000, and Revolver snuck past 5,000 (now on 5,406).......and then theres Hymee on 4,746!

I'm sorry if I've missed others, by all means throw up the stats...it would be interesting to see who's in for the top three podium finishes. :biggthump

Revolver 07-14-2007 03:37 AM

It wasn't achieved without some real suffering, I can tell you.

Whose suffering it was is up for debate, lol. :banghead: :lol2:

enforcer 07-14-2007 04:21 AM

Dave, since I've been around you have raised some excellent points and I appreciate your contribution!:)

I also see there are times when we probably suffer from being too bored or having too much say at the time! (put me in that category!) :boring:

Anyhow a great effort mate....:icon_tup:

Revolver 07-14-2007 04:06 PM

Nice of you to say so Trev.

And can I add that I appreciate the enthusiasm and good humour you've brought to the place...

enforcer 07-14-2007 06:37 PM

Seek and you shall find....(swoope pointed me in the right direction)

The way Cromax is going, he should be hitting 10 000 posts by tomorrow night

Revolver 07-15-2007 12:08 AM

Hahahaha, holy fuck - I thought there'd be waaay more tragics than me. I didn't think I'd make the top 50, let alone 15th spot. :uhh:

Mind you, most of the top 10 contribute real stuff rather than whoring. Good on 'em.

enforcer 07-15-2007 02:08 AM

I didn’t want to say the word “post whore” without doing some research on it.:chicken: Out of it came two schools of thoughts on the subject.

First…I looked up the definition of…”Post whore”

1. A purpose it seems to accumulate posts. With such gems of wisdom as "I agree," "me too" and "I heard that somewhere,"
2. A post whore manages to accumulate 1000s of posts without ever really saying anything.
3. He or she doesn't have to have any relevant or complete thought to post. As long as the post count goes up, he or she is happy.
4. Someone who posts on every thread out of boredom or as an attempt to feel a sense of belonging.
5. One who spends countless hours posting mindless bullshit! Their posts usually contain one word or an emotion.:nono:

I nearly concluded some people (including myself) needed a life and spend too much time on the computer!

I did some more research and found a second school of thought...

Have you ever noticed our forum has up to 200 persons lurking around without a single post? ...no offence guys, but I find this truly amazing!:scratchhe

You can learn a lot by lurking, the combined technological know how of people talking about the RX8 can be a bit intimidating at times. Most questions posted could be answered in a millisecond but for some reason you never hear of them! (They must be shy!)

So the moral of the story is this...if you want to be a lurker, you must resist the temptation to reply this post.
If not then you won't be a lurker anymore and become a post whore! Come one Nate...I know you're out there somewhere!!!!:lol2:

Kilppa 07-15-2007 06:13 AM

MissyK,

You have a PM.

As of next week, I have a feeling that spare time will be a non-entity ... therefore you may not see much of me anymore!

I can hear everyone sighing in relief already!

Eek!!! I didn't mean to spook anyone!

My first example came from the "X" gen (pre Internet) and the second views came from the post "Y" gen.

So.......in effect who's right?....:dunno:

In my book no-one, so we'd like to see you hit that 6,000 mark tonight!!!:ylsuper:

I just am rather busy at work, as you all probably notice I dont post whore as much during the day.. work is hectic, and then uni starts again in few weeks.. ontop of that still organising the new house.. i just dont have energy to really sit here at home.. and when i do, i rather spend that energy elsewhere!! lol

I think a lot of us who been around for a while are starting to feel this way..

Ditto.

I've had a little rush of blood the past day or so but I think it'll be shortlived, lol.

Everything has a useby date...

RXP33D 07-16-2007 03:29 AM

+1 for post count.

+1 for whore status.

Not exactly, that was only during a period of time where I wasn't doing much more than posting on this forum, apart from studying for exams ...

... and to be defined a post whore must exhibit all of the above, not one or two. I studied it in first year game development ... fun unit, rather pointless though.

Let me get this straight.

You studied postwhoring in first year game development?

No bloody wonder you're so good at it. Passed with distinction too, if the results here are an indication.

Revolver 07-16-2007 09:24 PM

Hahahahaha!

You make me laugh Gomez...

Uhh ... no, but I'm not the one stroking my ego every time I reply to a post Gomez.

I'm sure it makes you feel better after all.

DrewMan 07-22-2007 06:24 AM

hahahah :)

its either photoshopped or I am a significant contributor to this forum (sic)...

WHAT THE.......?

Am I seeing things or has Kals post gone down...!

Revolver 07-23-2007 04:44 PM

Kall has deleted some of her threads.

Cromax 07-23-2007 04:54 PM

There was a good reason for it

Revolver 07-23-2007 06:51 PM

I was answering his question not making a value judgment.

auzoom 07-24-2007 02:22 AM

OK I gotta ask this question. Do people actually put value in post count?

As an example, Trevor, your post count is currently 200 ish. yet your input around here has been one that makes me forget you have been here since only Nov last year. Then on the other side you have some of the larger post count people who probably would have only half the count they have if every 2nd post wasnt to say that someone else was a noob, they should search, or they have no idea...my ideas are the best, etc, etc.

Basically I am saying I couldnt give two hoots what someones post count is. I think we should have a shit fight count. Everytime you start a shit fight you count goes up...once you hit a certain count in a certain period you get a time out. I know mine would have a few on it :-|.

Anyway...

timbo 07-24-2007 03:27 AM

Ah, nostalgia....remember those days ....way, WAY back, when you'd wake up, get on to the forum, and discover dez had done an all-nighter rearranging his server racks (or something) AND making an added value response to EVERY open thread on this sub-forum. The passion, the knowledge, the wit...the bullsh!t :D

Dez was the original post whore...but he was (is) a renaissance post whore!:lol2:

Revolver 07-24-2007 03:27 AM

When I was new to this forum business I oohed and ahhed over the higher post counts (and wondered if they had a life, lol) but these days I couldn't give a crap.

As you say, it is a yardstick for quantity only, not a qualitative measure of the person's contribution.

And it really isn't hard to rack up the numbers, as we've seen recently. :uhh:

timbo 07-24-2007 03:29 AM

...and BTW, as for the off-topic stuff, I reckon it's seasonal. It's the same over at the VWvortex forum, and the same grumbles are happening there, too

Black-8 07-24-2007 05:37 AM

It would be nice to have some recognition for quality posts, like the one they implemented on OzHonda forum, people can rate a post as good or bad, and it adds up to the person's reputation. It's actually working quite well, people don't abuse it cause if you did get abused, mod is there to help sort out the problem.

takahashi 07-24-2007 05:22 PM

OzHonda will shut you down if you say anything about Mazda....

Black-8 07-25-2007 07:17 AM

yeah, been there, used to own 2 Hondas, so I know exactly what you mean :P
