ANZAC Day
As one that holds both an Australian and Kiwi passports I feel qualified to kick to the ANZAC day post.
I had an amusing conversation with a Pom based in Sydney on Friday...he is doing from work for us and he told me that they (Sydney) had a public holiday on Monday and that we probably wouldn't, I had the pleasure of firstly pointing our the "NZ" part of ANZAC and more importantly that it was his lot that put us on the wrong beach in the first place! What are you doing this 25th? |
I hope that you cancelled his day off for that comment!!!
As much as I have always wanted to go to a dawn service, I am sure that I will sleep through it again... I would love to go to Gallipoli, the new road looks great.. I think that it is fantastic how well the Turkish people continue to look after the site and welcome the sons and daughters of their old enemy from Australia and NZ.. Three of my grandfather's brothers fought in France in WWI - one lost his life and is buried there.. We will always remember.. |
Went to the dawn service in Canberra. Fantastic. Over 25,000 people, the Last Post is played there is silence, split by about 5,000 cockatoos rising with the dawn..
|
I'm off to the TAB to do the traditional ANZAC Day punt. My money will be on Essendon to crawl off the bottom of the ladder :) .

I guess there won't be a dawn service here in San Francisco :(
