RX-8 Engine rebulit kit

Hi,

Do you offer RX-8 engine rebulit kit like you offer for RX-7. I have bought couple from you guys before for my FD3S RX-7. I also need apex seals.

I would say that is normal in less you have low coolant, cooling fans\relays are not working or the thermostat is going bad..

Here's another good question could low coolant levels play a role in bad a/c peformance also?

GaMEChld 08-03-2008 12:51 PM

Interesting question. But if you wanted to do something about it, I saw this thread a while back.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-easy-mod-colder-ac-42322/

I haven't done it myself, but I may if having a turbo makes my A/C crappy.

Hey Dan, what size are the Atkins Designed High Performance Apex Seals on the master rebuild kit for the RX-8? 2mm or 3mm? Either way, your Kit is definitly cheaper than other kits I've seen.

There's a couple things wrong in the picture of this "RX-8" rebuild kit.
Air Control Valve Gasket? Upper Plenum Intake Gasket??
Where are the cut-off rings?

Obviously, this is an REW kit. Do you have the proper parts for a Renesis and at the same price?

dannobre 08-03-2008 10:18 PM

It actually says the Picture is for an 86 NA engine and not the RX-8 kit

MazdaManiac 08-03-2008 10:40 PM

Ahh. Well, on their page it's captioned "MasterKitRx8"

To my knowledge, Atkins doesnt have a renesis offering yet, I have asked him directly. Unless he is supplying oem apex seals. The kit shown is for an 86-88 13b nonturbo.

MazdaManiac 08-04-2008 01:44 AM

Very well, then.
So why in this post does he say he does and when you follow the link you go to this page on their site where they offer a kit for the Renesis with the picture from above of the NA 86 -88 13b?

RotaryResurrection 08-04-2008 01:51 AM

I dunno. All I can tell you is that I speak with them on a weekly basis and obtain parts from them constantly. I have discussed various aspects of rebuilding renesis with him and even inquired about whether they offer atkins version of renny seals, and then I asked why not.

Now this last convo took place a couple months back, so between then and now, he might have come out with an offering. Other than that, to my knowledge, ceramic and oem are the only apex seals offered for the renny. If you know of any other then please post.

Atkins Dan 08-04-2008 04:31 PM

We used a file photo for this kit...
Now what you will need for the renny rebuild will be correct when it arrives..

We are working on the correct photo but with only 2 of us here in sales that do the phone and net sales it can get real bizzy..

Also in the ad it will tell you "Picture is for 86 N/A (Only shown for reference.)"

and this is in the first line..

All the RX8 rebuild kits from me are OEM seals {for now}..
I am working on making my own apex seals for the Rx8...

There is no aftermarket kits on the market as of yet.. so all of the kit is all oem for now..

Probably another dumb question from me, but what is the purpose of this kit? For example, If you blow a motor in a turbo application, could something like this rebuild kit get you up and running again potentially?

And if you had to pay for outside labor to do the rebuild, would getting this kit and letting someone rebuild it be cheaper than getting a reman motor from Mazda? (I mean last I heard a reman motor was like upwards of $3k, so I would think this is cheaper)

As always, the cost of a rotary rebuild will depend on labor costs and how many of the hard parts need to be replaced.

Should you decide to do a refresh of a weak engine before it breaks seals, then in most cases a rebuild kit and labor are all that are necessary.

IF you wait until the engine actually breaks seals, you will almost certainly take out the adjacent rotor, rotorhousing, and in the case of the renesis, one or both adjacent irons.
