Answers very from 20 to 22 lbs.

My research led me to believe the wheels were 20 lbs without the TPMS and the the corresponding weights to offset it, but I have never weighed the rim myself.

A bare 18"X8" rim at 20 lbs is not bad and would be fair to term a "lightweight" wheel.

I just received two stock tires/rims delivered by UPS. Total package weight was just over 100 pounds, so the stock tire/rim combo is about 50lbs. each.

 

I believe a lot of those weights are ranged. They probibly paid the cost of shipping 100 lbs.

Anyone have a scale at home? Just weight yourself, then yourself with a wheel and subtract. It will settle the dispute.

 

can you guys please help me out? what's the math to convert lbs to kilos? really, i have no idea about lbs...

 

Go to google and search for "convert 22 lbs to kg"... Google is handy.

 

1 U.S. pound is equal to .453592 kilograms, so 50 lbs is 22.679605 kg

 

2.2 lbs is 1.0 kg. That's easier math to do in your head.

I just shipped a set, wheels with tires mounted and balanced are 45 lbs each... No TPMS but the sensors are very light, just ounces...

That was with the RE040? Since the RE040 is 26lbs, that would make the wheel about 19 lbs.

That is not bad for an 18"X8" factory wheel.

so it's about the same weight as a 18X8.5 SF challenge.

 

OK - here's the scoop. I have three sets of wheels (two for autocross), and have weighed them all.

SHIPPING weight on a bare (painted) wheel is 19 lbs (8.61826 kg - that's box and all), wheel is about 18.5 (8.39146 kg). Polished is a little lighter, at 18 lbs (8.16466 kg). This is with no TPMS sensors or valve stems.

Haven't weighed the chrome - but they are SUBSTANTIALLY heavier than these two.

I am in the middle of getting some aftermarket wheels.

I am thinking about putting some light low-profile gumball tires on my stock wheels and save them for the track.

since stock wheels are light, is there any point in changing them, except for the looks? are aftermarket wheels even lighter?the only ones i've seen are the MS magnesium forged wheels, which look great but the price.... oh christ!
8.5kg for an 18x8 wheel sounds quite low

 

ya sine after market wheels are lighter ... look around , and if anything change to 17" if you want more performance

 

Our stock wheels rock. The only change I will make are some 245/40 Kuhmo Ecsta MX's unless someone can point me towards a better tire compromise for street/track.

 

The stock wheels are very good, they are some of the best OEMs out there... You can find 19s that are light but will spend more, now the lower profile tire is a little lighter so that helps a bit... You can buy light forged lug nuts and then replace your wheel studs with titanium, put on two piece rotors and lighter brake calipers, etc...

 

so 18lbs for 18inch wheels....

Ok, now im 100% convinced im not changing out my rims.

 

Tires tho... yeah i definetly see myself putting on wider tires as soon as my current ones wear out. Althought, with only 300 miles on the car currently I dont see that happening anytime soon.

 

I find it hard to believe that these wheels weigh 18 pounds.. It seems there are high variances between people...

Another person weighed them at 22 pounds...

Maurice.. Canzoomer.. has said they are 21 pounds...

Who really knows...

When I get new wheels in a few weeks i'll weigh them at that time too.. but I guess i'll just be another statistic as well...

 

10kg (22lbs) stock is very light!

There are only a few that are weighing lighter! The one you know of is going to cost a lot!

I should be getting new wheels installed on Tuesday; at that time I'll weigh the stock rims and see how much they actually weigh. The 18 x 8.5 rims I'm getting weigh 17lbs each. I too was under the impression the stock rims weigh 22lbs but I'll know for sure on Tuesday.
