We would like to encourage greater participation for the Packwood ProSolo and National Tour events so the late fees are being waived for both events. Social Chair, Gretchen Everett has a fabulous weekend planned for the Tour with another BBQ at the local Firehouse and more tricycle races. There will also be door prizes available. This site has indoor paddock space for everyone and is in a beautiful setting. Courses for both events look like they are going to be awesome. A low entry level also means easy points and short days. The good news is the whole class should make the challange.

 

I'll be there. As Jason said, Packwood is a great site, in the middle of a beutiful area with lots of interesting sights & roads, which could make a nice extended weekend if somebody were so inclined.

Jason, why would you expect the whole class to make the challenge? With 9 entries so far (assuming Mark's entry into AM is a mistake) it seems like a big class.

 

Because of the small number of classes with 5+ cars. They take the top 32 of all the open classes with 5 or more. If only a few classes have 5 most everyone will get in. I am sure not everyone will get in but the gap will be big. Most big pros if you are .5 or more back you wont get into the challenge, with a low turn out you could be 2 secs off the pace and make it.

 

generally speaking, the further off the beaten path an event is the lower the turnout; no decent hotels, restaurants, and other conveniences will eventually doom this site from being on the National schedule too ...

 

Personally, I think that the beauty of the area, and the ride down to Packwood, more than make up for the distance and lack of creature comforts there. And the huge, open asphalt patch makes for excellent courses. Everett is much closer for me; Bremerton is about 90 minutes, but all the Bremerton courses are similar, constrained as they are by the physical layout of an airstrip. Packwood is more than two hours, but it's a beautiful drive, right through Mt. Rainier National Park, and I don't mind spending a couple of nights in a fleabag, eating at a diner.

I'll be doing my first NT ever, surely holding down last place in A Stock. But it should be fun!

I really wanted to get out to another Pro after DC, but I have no money left for travel this year. Being way the f0ck up in the PNW makes it a definite no-go.

Is the DC Pro turnout enough evidence that another east-coast Pro is needed?

Well said. If you want to avoid the flea-bag hotels, try the Crest Trail lodge. The rooms may be plain and unexceptional, but they are clean. And, the owner is a strong advocate of the SCCA events within the community. For those who don't know, there have been a few incidents in Packwood which have soured some of the locals on the car clubs. In particular, a sports car driver (not affilated with either the OR or NW Region clubs/events) struck a local and caused serious injuries. Most business owners seem to be very positive on our presence, though (not surprisingly). Just a reminder to keep the speeds down in town.

And for a good burger, try the tavern. They actually have pretty good food.

Everything in Packwood was full by the time I committed to going to the NT, so I'm forced to stay in a hotel in one of Packwood's suburbs. I cringe at the thought of what that'll be.

But I am staying at the Crest Trail for the Evo school.

I'm way late here, but is it still possible to run the AutoX or the Evolution school?

I'd be in some street mod class- springs, sways, brake MC stopper.

 

Evo school I believe has some spots - email kb_solo2@hotmail.com to ask. Ask fast though, they start on tuesday!

I think the NT registration is still open as well. Go to scca.org, click solo, then national tour, and find the packwood event next weekend.

 

Do you need to be an SCCA member to run in National events?

 

Yes, but they sell temporary SCCA memberships for like 5$ onsite. You do, however, need to preregister for the events.
