Yup, I'm a Hawaii guy.. This forum doesn't seem to have many though.
Yes I too have found that a couple of the Mazda dealers here are clueless.
Have you pre-ordered? If so, where from and how much? So far I've only heard of 5 pre-orders from the two different dealers I been at. I'm very curious to see what they will be paying.
I am so close to preordering but the dealers I dealt with are making it very hard

And guess what? All the Hawaii dealers failed to meet expectations. I was not able to pre-order a car due to the fact that they either wanted an outrageous price for the car, or wasn't able to come up with a final price.
So, if you're in Hawaii and are thinking of getting an RX-8.. think again. None of them feel the car should sell at MSRP so good luck with our 3 lone dealers.
But HEY, if you've already ordered one, SPEAK UP DAMMIT! I'd LOOOVE to know the who, what, where, whens about how you did it..
My 2 cent rant.

I see.. same here.. I havent bothered about the loan yet until the car is here. Some banks dont wanna deal unless they know you got the car almost in hand.
have you talked to any dealers yet?

have u guys in hawaii thought about buying it from the mainland and then shipping it back to hawaii? i heard the shipping is pretty cheap
if not, i guess u guys will just have to wait out the markups. wont be long tho. cause with the huge markups, people wont be buying, and the dealers will be forced to drop back to msrp maybe even below msrp. same thing happened with the evo.
anyways, good luck guys

Yes I did. The guy I talked to seems nice but knew nothing on when they were getting the RX-8. He just said to be on the lookout in the local newspaper. On my next day off I'll go pay them a visit and ask someone else there.

When i went looking for brochures for the RX-8 this past Tues. (05/13) - new brochures just came in, BTW (not the "Start the Revolution" ones). The salesguy @ Cutter Mazda/VW Ala Moana said that they received around 8 (no pun intended) pre-orders. He told me that if i wanted a mid-July/early August delivery, he'd need my order in by next week. Talk about "under the gun!" (i'm pretty sure i can swing a down payment, though)
For those that pre-ordered, how much were you gou... er... charged (total)? Which dealership?
Ahh dont believe Cutter about the timeline. What they'll have you do is choose from one of their allocated already ordered RX-8s. If you're so happen to be lucky enough to like one of the ones they already have on order, then good for you. You would be able to take advantage of the early delivery (June, July, Aug)
For me, they didnt "allocate" the color combo and option pkg I wanted, so they tried to force me to pick from what they already had coming. It's either that or place a "real" pre-order and wait till after it's all said and done to get the car built to your specs.
Trust me, I went to all the dealerships on Oahu and I know what prices they want. (McKenna, Cutter, JN) If you look hard enough you'll find what I was quoted all over this forum. MSRP seems kapu here in Hawaii.. I trust the dealer I'm going with will see the light an earn a customer for life if they give me a good price.
