question on track day at Laguna Seca

Gentlemen, I just moved to the west coast and was interested in doing a track day at Laguna Seca. Problem is the Noise level at 92 db. I was wondering if anyone knew what the db level on a cat back Greddy Sp elite was? Or if anyone has tracked there and managed fine with an aftermarket exhaust...I would throw my stock exhaust back on but i dont have it with me anymore.

thanks

If you still have a cat installed, you are under the DB limit. You can't exceed it with a stock cat on.

When are you going? I'm hoping to get there on the 24th and 25th of November with PCA-GGR.

You can ask them for a dB reading when you are there. You also get a couple of warnings... I have seen people modify their tail pipe to point away from the sound station, or simply lift as they go by, although there are also claims they have a mobile sound station.

I was just there with Hooked On Driving, and there was a company at the track that fabbed tailpipes that attatch to the end of yours and curve toward the inside of the track and points the noise away from the mics. When I get home I'll try to post a picture of a car that had them installed and I'll shoot an email and try to get the name of the company. I think it'll get somewhere around a 97-100 below the limit.

Ill be going for on Nov 3rd with NCRC....ive seen a few picks with the exhaust pipes pointed downward. this DB level seems ridiculous for such a well known and popular track

It's the neighbors And it's owned by the county or at least managed by the county.

Do you have any mods to your car? I am going to be there on Sunday and wondering how close a BHR midpipe with the stock cat back will be to the 90dB limit...

Sorry I missed your post. I only have suspension and brake pad mods.

What did you think? I absolutely loved the track! Turns 4 and 9 were my favorite.

I asked you earlier about iRacing when you were going to drive Sonoma, well It helped a little to know the track by playing the game, but what benefitted me the most was playing the game after driving the circuit. I think I shaved around 3 seconds off my Miata time. I finally knew how to take turns 2,5,6,8, and 9

I would love to go back and see what times I can get the second time. I was hoping to get a sub 1:50, but all I was able to muster was a 1:55.252. I just didn't have the courage to push 5 and especially 6 And I didn't start to feel comfortable with those two turns until the last session.

^ I noticed the same thing on iracing. After learning the line in real life I was able to apply that to the game. I drove the track at the same time last year, and also 1 day a year before that. In the past couple of months I practiced quite a bit in iracing and it definitely helped when I went back this time. I was able to immediately switch to the racing line from the school line through T2 and the corkscrew and spent most of my time finding the limit (and dealing with traffic) rather than working on the line. I still ended up 5s off my best mx5 time in the game, but that car has slicks and took quite a few crashes to get that quick so i'm pretty happy with that.

Oh and I absolutely loved every minute of being there. I was a huge amount of fun and the car was flawless even driving back to back with a friend on day 1. I think the lower temps this time of year helped a little with that

@TANKERG - what tires were you running? I was just there this past weekend - there were 3 R3s there, unforunately one ended up shiny side down... would love to see time comparisons with more detailed mod info...

What club was that with? I'd have been tempted to go back myself...

TANKERG was on Yoko AD08s

What happened with the R3? Any video?

There's some video and a bit more discussion of our visits on the 2nd page of this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/track-video-247264/

R3 flipped longways after the tail went almost all the way around... backed into the inside wall and flipped the hood over trunk... guy walked out seemingly without a scratch though. Made me a) feel safe and b) nervous about turn 4, lol.
