I'm planning on signing up for Oct 7. Should be fun; I've waited way too long to take the RX8 on its first track day. I have to check my NASA log to see if I'm still in Group 2 or if I'm already signed thru for Group 3. really curious to see if I can outdo my best time @ Infineon from my previous car.
C4, what Group are you in?

I'm not sure what you mean, and you didn't say if you had run w/ NASA before, but with them you are supposed to Start at Grp1 and the instructors have to sign you off if you want to run next event at a higher group.

I think the only way to bypass this and start at a higher group is if you can prove significant experience previously running w/ other clubs.

but anyway, it should be a good time regardless of group.

Grp 3 option was blocked off when I registered on Thursday. hmmm.
anyway, no biggie, I think that Grp 2 is a good choice for this time; this is the first time w/ the RX8 on the track and I'll be taking it a bit easy; I'd rather be on pace w/ the group and concentrating on feeling out my car's attitude on the track, than worrying about watching my mirrors.

I already registered for Grp 2 on Thursday (when 3 was blocked off at the time) so maybe I took the last grp 2 spot. all good.
I'm taking my car in on Wednesday for the voluntary recall thingy, hopefully all is OK w/ the car and I'm hoping to get a new set of brake pads out of the deal w/ all the squealing I'm currently getting. that will save me from buying a new set of pads for this upcoming event. then my only other prep for the track day is new DOT 4 fluid and of course bringing the car to the tech inspection site.

G4 doesnt require a "license"...just that we require that youre not a total n00b, and that you belong there.

Bad bad things happen in G4 when someone believes theyre prepared for it, but not.

*nods* G1 or 2 are open to anyone who wants it, people really shaky on the whole "how to drive a car without a white stripe in the road" really do need G1.

G3 is open..but you need to be conversant in whats going on, on a race track, to make it thru the day safely by the end of the day.

IE: If you have no or little track experience, you may find yourself driving your car thru your rear view mirrors and offline..and badly, which puts everyone around you in danger.

There is a reason that both G1 and G2 are a "learn the line only" set of groups..if you dont grok the line and what it _means_, the upper groups can be a bad place to be.

How do I know this..im the guy that tows whats left of your mistakes off the track, and ive seen em all. You dont wanna be that guy just because 3 was open and you think you can handle it.

I hafta agree, which is why i'm not in a huge rush to move to grp 3 before I shake-down my RX8 for its first time on track. couple of crazy Grp 3 wrecks last Fall the last time I was at Infineon, one of them was a brand spankin' new 350Z.

You mean THIS one.

I photo all of our catches.

Im the dude in yeller.

And..FWIW..he didnt do anything really bad. Guys a good driver, and just added brakes and swaybars to his car, and as a result he picked up just a very few MPH out of T9 that he didnt know how to deal with in T10 in a stiffer car..and T10 at Sears is an eater if you dont fully and completely respect it.

I'll make sick passes on people in the old rx7 coming out of 10 if the over-respect, but thats ok, I suck in T11.
