Insurance!!!!

When we got word that our 8 had arrived, we called the insurance rep so they could add it to our policy. Well, the car's so new they didn't know about it and it wasn't in the computer. So how would they know how much to charge for insurance?

Anyway, we got the notice that the car was added to our policy, along with a bill for.... $668. Husband was convinced that insuring this car would cost 3 grand. Policy said that the RX-8 was a 2-door coupe. Oupes. Better tell them it's a stodgy old SEDAN and get a price cut even lower! (They seem to think it's just a modernized RX-7.)

So... what are you paying to insure your 8, compare the cost to your other car(s) so we know what your company thinks of this car.? We're with CSAA.

Talk about cheap, I replaced my 1993 Probe with the 8 for only an additional $59 for 6 months. Not sure why it's so cheap, but I'm not complaining.

Edit: I'm with Mercury Insurance with LoJack and other discounts.

With my insurance, the RX-8 is 17% more expensive to insure than my Honda S2000. (Erie insurance)

Added as a second car to my 2001 Eclipse at just $700 per year. Half of what my 1995 Z28 was as a second car.

AAA quoted me $1700 a year for both the rx-8 and my 95 toyota truck...i went to go ahead with it and they said no, it's $2400 a year sorry. i gave the proverbial one fingered salute and called 21st century, they said $1754 a year for both cars, that's full coverage 100/300/100 in los angeles.

Insuring my 8

My Farmer's policy went up $515.20/year over my previous '93 Miata. Total is now $1774/year.
No big surprize, it cost a bunch to replace 8 airbags.
I live in LA with a spotless record.
I am interested in other owners insurance costs.
Thanks,
TDS

Cool Per year?

If you just 'added' it to your policy, the $668 was only for the remainder of your policy term - how many months are left on your policy?

Or did it specifically say "per year"?

Per year!

Doctorr, sorry, should have clarified the term. It was an additional $668 for a policy that runs out next April. So that means about 8-9 months' coverage.

Issues that affect your insurance include how old you are, whether you're married, and where you live. Single guys under 30 get reamed.

We're paying for 300/500 coverage in N. Cal, married rates. 3 other cars, one's for sale. We were paying $2100 for the 3 cars so if I add another 30% to the payment (for a full year) then it looks like $2950 for 4 cars for a year.

42, married, no tickets in last 3 years, multi-car discount, 300/500 coverage, California.
State Farm $1100/yr. Not bad since the premium on my 12 year old Infiniti G20 is $800/yr.

I'm 41, no tix/accidents, with AMEX Assurance Co.

Adding my new RX-8 to my other two cars gave me a 6-mo. premium of $941:

'91 MBz 500SL - $506
'86 Toyota MR2 - $145
'04 RX-8 - $290

I was amazed -- they do seem to think it's a 4-door slug. :D

I live in LA (Sierra Madre near Pasadena) and my insurance is only $1,150 for the year. I have Liberty Mutual and I was paying $1,550 for my 2001 BMW 330ci convertible. They are treating my automatic (could auto be cheaper) as a four door sedan.

Dang! $290 for six months? And $941 for all three cars?
Have a phone number for Amex? A friend of mine said he had AMEX and was paying about $400/6 mo's for 2 cars, I thought he was BS'ing.

I just got a sick quote from calcas of 1600 yr. and that is mainly because they say it is a "High Performance Vehicle":D . I asked what constitutes that? She replied," 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. So I scrambled looking everywhere on the net to see something that said I just bought a boat because it dosn't have 250HP only 238 . She told me to look and she said that she would check.

My Question Is:

Has anybody seen any 0-60 speed tests that are above 6 seconds?

I found a C&D article that said 6.2 secs., but I would like to have something that would go along with the recuction of HP.

Hoping to save some major bucks.

Bill
