CARB Certified cat wanted Northern San Diego County
I'm in Carlsbad and I need a carb certified cat to get an emissions test, I have a cat but not a carb certified one so I wouldn't need to drive cycle the car, just put a carb certified cat on and drive to a smog check place. So if I could borrow someone's cat for a less than a day, I would take it off and put it on for you, you don't have to get dirty. I also have a spare midpipe if you need to drive the car. Willing to compensate with beer or money. PM me to get in contact.

I don't think it matters anymore... Last time I went to get smogged, they plugged in the obdII and let it run it's course. I am absolutely certain they didn't look at the cat... but come to think of it, I'm not even sure they put a sensor into the tailpipe...
might want to go to a pass or free retest place and give it a shot...?

My car is registered in Arizona and im in Carlsbad for work. My registration was up and I needed to renew it so I figured if I could just go to a smog check and get through but you need a CARB certified catalyst to pass I don't have one so I called both the AZ DMV and the ADEQ and was told that so long as I pass the OBD II readiness I was good because AZ doesn't require the CARB cert. So I did that and passed on everything except the cat which they checked and caused the test to come back as a failure, and sent in the smog check. Two weeks later I call them after not hearing from them and they tell me they can't give an out of state exemption on a fail smog check even if it was the only failure was the catalytic converter. So now my options are to drive back to Arizona to get an emissions test or put a CARB cert. cat on and run it through smog out here.
tl;dr they checked the cat at the smog place and I need a CARB cert. cat to pass.

aaahhh - that might be because you need an inspection to have it registered in CA too? I don't think I've ever had a guy go under the car to check the cat for a carb cert... if it looks old enough and dirty enough, they might assume it's stock?
that being said, my 8 looks pretty much stock... ... ...
