Who is maintaining this forum ?

Hello, I am asking this because I have noticed that almost nothing has changed about it since the time I registered and before. I have some suggestions that I think would come in handy, because the forum has a lot of members, and all of them are functional, making the forum more easier to use in every way. All of the modifications I will do in a favor to put some small google adverisements on the bottom of the page, or wherever you want it. If you, the members, and the administration are interested in to it, I will post you the examples, and write what things are going to be made. Also, my site is the number #1 visited automotive site in Bosnia and further. Looking forward for your reactions

Let me start you off.

But seriously, if you have suggestions, post them. It benefits everyone. You won't get to touch the board software or get ads though...

Okay, here we go. Currently we are developing stage 3 which remains secret.

The start page, which leads to forum, advertisements(buying, selling parts...etc), events, gallery, and upload of pictures. Cars on the start page are from our members, and the pictures change on every refresh or new visit.

Looks like this...

Mainly there are forum changes opposite to standard version of every phpbb forum, and these are...

- Notification when someone posts in your topic
- Pop-up balloon when new private message arrives
- Auto lock of threads older than 6 months to forbidd old threads from getting up
- Added option only to look for today's post (option "new posts" is also included)
- Every user puts the car in his garage, and on his every post a small car icon is visible, clicking on it, it automatically forwards the user to his thread and car ( if the user has made a thread about his car)
- Group called "Projects", underneath it, are "Project comments". The trick is, Person 1 is posting explanations and his pictures in "Projects", and no ne except him can post to this, on every bottom of a page, there is a button, "Projects comments", so every user can click on it, and comment the project from person 1. This is a great improvance, because it is more better to look al the project without any comments from third persons that may distract the user. And on project comments everyone can post their toughts and suggestions.

For start, a new refreshing design of this forum would be great

Offcourse I am not saying to make a start page or something, but adding some of those functions, like auto lock would be really useful, but let the admins decide

Heh, I have complains, fix the Trader Score, I bought and sold things but when I link it to the FS thread, it gave me an invalid URL error.

Fix the photo galleries so that we can browse banned members albums, if not, then remove their albums altogether, don't display it in the random 5 pictures on the main page.

Fix the ads, we've been getting these stupid drop down ads and it blocks off half the posts on top of the page.

Fix the club avatar, the RX8Club logo looks bad, pixilated, and ugly.

Separate the WTB and WTS/FS sections.

Fix the tagging feature, a bunch of members on this forum board can't tag.

And most of all, STICKY THE SOCAL LOUNGE IN THE WEST SECTION!

I'm done.

By maintaining I was thinking you mention something along the lines of these rules:

Before You Reply:

1. No "Use the Search" replies - answer the question, link to the answer, or don't reply.
2. No insults, name calling, smart *** replies, or any other replies that violate our posting policies.
3. Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice can be worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard").
4. No getting off-topic - if you're not replying to the thread starter's original post, take it to PMs/email or start a new thread.
5. If someone answers your tech question, please recommend them for reputation points.
6. Use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation if posting in our Tech Forums. Internet Explorer users should download IEspell. We suggest using . Use Dictionary.com if necessary.

This is whats posted on another forum i use. Honestly some people may think it's overkill, but it keeps threads and the entire forum very functional and useful. It sucks having to dig through 4-13 pages of people cracking jokes, talking with friends, starting flame-wars, etc. just to find an answer to your question. This also cuts down on repetitive threads and thus a faster website all together.
Honestly my post right now would fall within this because it is completely un-related to the OP's topic at hand. But hey, I figured it's worth a shot that maybe some of the big-wigs around here will consider. I'm not saying this forum isn't useful, just a suggestion to make it better.

Don't need it. We prefer a massive 5 year thread revival to a new "What oil should I use" thread.

Had something similar. They removed it. Probably not enough people used it to make it worth the bandwidth/hassle

Might be useful, but this is the same as a thread with the OP editing their first posts. I see that all the time, mainly with FI build threads.

It's really not hard to figure out who runs the forum if you look :P

As for major changes, can't do anything unless IB gives us the go-ahead (and they take care of upgrades/redesign/functionality changes too, in general- we don't need help there, it's just getting them to find the time to do it). I'm out of commission for at least a month and a half starting next week, but if you have something that you REALLY feel strongly about, send a note to Omicron or Zoom44.

Most of the things I mentioned would not be hard to implement in vBulletin, it is in fact MyPHP and SQL, and I am just suggesting, others will vote and decide

edit : @RIWWP - I forgot to mention, that autolock feature only works if nothing is posted in period of sixt months, or whatever the period you want it to be

I agree, I would do it too when I buy one, but I am talking for different topics. Example you ask where to buy some part, you get the answer, a little chat maybe, the thread gets forgotten, and one day some new member, who doesnt look at the date, posts a new reply. In that case, the auto lock feature would come quite in handy

I wish old threads would be locked. It does not help when one of the mods here likes to bump threads.

FTFY

But yes, none of it is hard, however IB is unlikely to bother.

IB owns vBulletin so I'm not sure how much 'tweaking' they're going ot want.

i think we are all here for fun and theres alot of information out there if you have patients to search so why be so strict when you can have fun and all people have to do is search plus usually when you select a post you get the first page which is where MOST if not all the info is so if you dont want your day of humor dont look further just my opinion coz i love how people are on this forum its more lively coz of that ...

rod is right, if you need to find something, use the search bar and it is usually within the first page or so of the thread. yes the rest maybe bs, but that is the lively hood of our club. Atleast we are fun and not lame.

As to the closing the thread after 6 months, there are sometimes that a thread needs to be revived, changing flashes, new nav disks, updated recalls, new info, etc.... So I think that would not be such a wise idea. If a thread is revived, then ppl have the choice to ignore it. besides, keeping old threads revivable stops the newbs from starting new threads which causes them to get burned even worse.
