Minimum post count to start a new thread.

I move to institute a minimum post count before you can post a new thread. The site is becoming more and more cluttered with people coming in and starting new threads on gas mileage, flooding, performance chips, ect. Having a minimum post count of say 5-10 posts to start a new thread would seriously curb some of this and kill random spammers. I think the only exceptions should be the lounge (for newbies to say hello) and the F/S section. Click yes if you agree.

I don't think even 20 posts but more like 5 posts would be acceptable prior to creating a new thread. That way either questions are posted in existing threads or there is some activity prior to a thread creation.

I would support this idea. People are really quick to ask basic questions that have been well documented enough that searching is very easy.

I say no and this is why: some people jump on here and start new threads asking for tech help of got a issue with there 8 and need help asap! some migh be repost but the question being worded different you get the same responce. But in the end you get help.
Doing this will slow down people that need help.
Plus thats why we have mods and what not to keep up on the repost and repeat post of threads that have been posted and coverd the first time around. They just need more mods like that *hint hint* and all night *hint hint*.
So yeah, I say no.

I'm not sure how many different ways people can ask whether a performance chip will give them HP, whether or not they should pre-mix, what oils should they use, what gas should they use, or what kinds of things they should look for in a used RX8....

I also don't know how many ways people can ask whether or not the rotary is a reliable engine. I see every one of these questions at least once a week if not more frequent.

If anything, it will force people to ask more specific questions showing they have at least done some basic reading.

It will also keep people from hopefully opening 4 different threads for the same topic but that might be pie in the sky.

I find it allot quicker to search for my problem then to post a thread, and wait for someone who actually knows what they are talking about to post an answer. 99.99% of all problems have been discussed here in duplicate. If there is that .01% that gets screwed because of this, I consider that an acceptable loss.

Then whats the point of a interactive site? search everything and bring up threads that are old as dirt. Then you get stupid people saying oh look, a thread from the past is like a blast from the past. Whats the point. No one responds to what you need or the differnce in your issue till a few days latter anyway. So oh well. Shut the site down. Who needs it. We can all go read the manual and solve all or problems.
Not that I'm taking it out on you but I'm just saying.
Pie? or Cream Pie?

Pie? or Cream Pie?
What you're talking about is the difference between proactive people and people who prefer to have others do the work for them.

I've been surprised to see the kinds of topics I've found covered on this website when I've done research on parts, technical data or looking for reviews on certain products. I'm not a search engine genius but I understand enough to know how to keyword search. If I can do it anybody can.

I would even be in favor of forgoing a post limit and simply impose a 24 hour cool down period after registering before allowing people to post threads.

I simply dont think it will have the intended consequences. Searching is still going to be a highly developed skill. And i kinda used to enjoy whacking someone upside the head with a "SEARCH, YOU MISERABLE PIECE..." It has entertainment value.

Oh for the days of Mugatu. heh.

In my opinion, potentially high quality threads are often made unreadable by posters crapping in them with random spewage. I see this as a much more painful behavior than new threads. New threads allow for certain spewage to be contained in separate areas. Spewage in, say the Cobb AccessPORT threads, has made me somewhat weary in the last few days.

Dang...

I somewhat would agree... I would see requiring a "minimum post count" on certain threads like the FOR SALE section or get moderator approval if they don't have enough posts - kinda like ebay. Every other thread should be open.

i think this is a "must". rx7 club has a 3 post limit i think. when i got here i opened some pretty stupid threads, but i learned to use the search button. as you can see i have a low post count because there is so much info in hidden...you just need to look. is there anyway the admins can put a search tutorial in when you register so you have to read it before registering??

I agree with the post count.

Maybe lower it to 5 or 10. There are a few newcomers that might have a specific problem due to certain circumstances that are not covered anywhere else.

I vote yes. Doesn't have to be nearly as high as 20 posts though. I would say that 5-10 is more than enough. I have 600 or so posts and have been on this site for nearly 3.5 years. The reason is because I SEARCH.

I hate when people come on here and post a repeat question. I've said it before but I'll say it again:

Why should I waste MY time to help someone when they won't waste theirs to help themselves?

i would agree with the limit of 10 or so, but only in certain sub forums. places like lounge as stated above and regional should be left open.

I originally voted in favor of not needing a post count before being able to start a thread based off of the initial suggestion of 20 or so, but with a lower number like 5 sounds reasonable enough to allow everyone to post what they need to while filtering out some really dumb threads

I dont think 10 or 20 would be a good number to use, it might discourage people from using the site if they are new
