FAQ - Let's Get it Going!

Clearly the FAQ is way out of date. It is nobody's fault, and it was great work when it was written, but it is time. The only way this will get done is if some of us step forward and volunteer to work on it. It should be pretty easy if we divvy it up by sections or something. We'd need to come to a consensus over what topics should be covered in the new FAQ. Anyone one to get involved with this? Post to volunteer, and let's get a basic outline going. Serious posters only, please.

Edit: Here is my preliminary list of things to consider:
Suggested Break In Procedure
General Rotary Driving Tips
General Rotary Maintenance Tips (Do's and Don'ts, etc.)
Oil: How often and What kind
Myths and Rumors debunked
Lowdown on the Dyno issues and possible causes
Washing and waxing
Details of the 6PI system?
Resetting DSC

Links
Trussville and other OEM accessory sales
Aftermarket Suppliers
RX-8 Tuners

Count me in

I'd be glad to help. I mentioned this over a month ago in the Suggestions forum - perhaps nobody ever reads stuff there.

And hurry up. I pick mine up in the next few days! j/k

Seriously, the efforts of those much more knowledgable than me are greatly appreciated. Learning about all of this is part of the fun.

As a relative newbie, I most need information on 1) general rotary maintenance, 2) rotary driving tips, and 3) aftermarket parts availability and installation. That's as it relates to ordinary piston engines (i.e., I don't need Driving 101).

I'd be more than happy to contribute on general rotary driving habits and info. Just point me at it and I'll start banging the keyboard .

Euro FAQ

I ordered my 240ps car back in January 2003, when am I likely to see it?

Answer : never. Your getting a 231ps vehicle sometime next century, by which time were going to be traveling in tubes, because all th petrol has ran out.

Good idea, then we can just tell people to Check the FAQ instead of giving them the usual "Use the Search" button and have them complaining how they "couldn't find it"

Okay, great. Please add to my preliminary list of topics to be covered in the FAQ. I will add more, too, after I get done flying today.

Just a semantic point, but if it's really a FAQ then it should be laid out as a series of questions and answers rather than a list of tips. Though I'll bow to popular opinion if we differ.

Anyway, I can think of several frequently asked questions that need to be included, but they all fall into one or other of your general categories.

Does someone have a Linux web server on which we could set up FAQ-O-Matic or something similar to make this cooperative effort a little easier?

Folks might also like to read Infinite Ink's FAQ writing tips and the FAQ on FAQ's before we get started. Though admittedly they're aimed more towards newsgroups, they still contain some useful information and guidelines that might help.

You guys might want to hold off on an FAQ update now that the news has been released about the deficit in horsepower for both versions of the car..

Yes, it will be in Q&A format, the topical areas are intended to help organize the drafting. Thanks for those links, I will definitely be reading those.

FAQ is started. Join in.

I've started the FAQ over at the Yahoo RX-8 Group. I chose to do it there, because it was the easiest way to allow multiple people to contribute without requiring any software other than a web browser. You do have to register as a member of the Yahoo Group to view the database, however. If this is an issue for anyone, I can simply tell you what fields to include in your submission. This is just a start. Once the FAQ database gets populated, we can look at cranking out text, html, and other formats. I threw a couple of sample FAQs in there to give you an idea of what information should go in which fields:
Section - Question - Answer - Author - References

Anyone who has something to contribute, PM me for my email address. You can then send me a text file with your submission(s). Thank you. If things get chaotic, we can look at "assigning" sections or questions or something, but for now we'll keep it a free for all.

Edit: I suggest drafting your FAQ using a simple text editor.
