New JDM OEM Nav dash panel for aftermarket systems

Anyone taken a look at RX-8 Customize catalog on the JDM site? On page 19, you can see the new dash panel. The screen tucks away inside and a slide panel closes over it.

http://www.mazda.co.jp/customize/web_cat/rx-8/rx-8.html

I wonder how much they cost...

Very nice find. Maybe the US will get this nav/dash panel one of these day. I can't read Japanese but if I can convert the yen to dollars. 295322 yen is approx $2,574. That's not too bad for all those features. I do like the baby JDM stuff -- JDM baby seats!!!

Exactly what I'm looking for...I need to get a hold of that piece--especially after rigging up my TomTom in a less than OEM fashion.

Anyone who carries JDM Mazda stuff already should be able to look into getting one. Like Mazdaparts.com, Canzoomer...

So that dash piece is composed of everything--not just a housing?

No, I believe that it is just housing. It is shown as it is in the catalog because Mazda dealers also offer various aftermarket (Pioneer, etc.) navigation systems as a dealer installed option. Previously they used the "nav tray" to fixed mount the screen on the dash, but now it looks like that this new "hideaway cubby" is the replacement for that. As the nav tray was available separately, I would also think that this is as well.

Nice find! It would be great for carputer purposes, but the American nav market is all double-DIN integrated systems these days like Alpine and Eclipse as opposed to an underseat disc/processor connected to a screen up top. Nav systems with a relocatable screen like that are all a couple years old. I think I'm going to go with the Kanatech screen and an Alpine instead...

Here it is for those of you who don't want to navigate that ridiculous Java app...

^ probably not if your 8 is MT. JDM MT cars don't require you to push the clutch in to start (USDM safety feature). If your car is AT... yeah... I'd figure that something could probably be worked out.

I don't think it looks any better, and the screen seems smaller. What's the benefit?

No no. There is not US and JDM housing. There is factory nav housing and dealer-installed nav housing. This is the new dealer-installed nav dash housing. Since there are no dealer-installed nav options... this is not available in the US.

The benefit is that it is concealed vs. the nav tray. I want one/need one.

Yea, I want one. I'm tired of throwing a blanket over the dash every time I park.

There were a lot of things in there that I've never seen before... anyone else catch the new chassis bracing under the car or the 4 point mazdaspeed front strut tower bar just like the autoexe one? Looks like theres a pretty badass optional security system with voice commands and **** too. That gauge pod didn't look half bad either... but anyways I hope this new dash tray is as cheap as the last dash tray.

Well, I thought of that too.

The 4 point ms front strut bar was out for a LONG time (JDM parts) Autoexe was a "cheaper" version of that. I forgot but I think it does not work with US cars cuz of the Master Brake Cylinder support or something. I might be wrong tho. same thing goes for Re-Amemiya too
