Hey everyone this is my first post. I been readin the site for a bit now and i plan to get a rx8. i just curious about what people thought about gas. I was listening to the radio and they said that gas might be 4 dollars by the end of the year. I could care less what the mpg. i dont mind paying. but just wanted to know what people thought.

A spokesman at OPEC the other day said crude oil prices would come back down soon from $75US/bbl to maybe as low as $50. So hopefully this is a temporary pain in the rumpus.

It's better than $6-7 gallon in europe.. has been for years in places, you will survive. It'd be nice for it to go down but don't expect anything major until the end of the year at the latest...
until gas is > $10 gallon it's still cheap energy. Gas companies are screwing themselves... everyone is gonna get pissed and move to other fuels, ethanol, hydrogen, biodiesel etc... and this is gonna be the catalyst that makes it happen, if they ate some profit and kept oil cheap though "uncertainty" instead of shaking a magic 8 ball everyday for a reason to raise prices, they could keep a stranglehold on world energy.
right now with mass production it's economically feasible ( less than $5k per car )to convert just about any car to a solar power hydrolysis hyrdrogen system.
You could do all the parts off the shelf yourself tomorrow for less than $15K. The hard part would be engine managment and installation.
Off the grid free power, fill your car up every other day and get 300 miles or better per fill.
Right now there's companies lining up to do this too.. and they are CLOSE to mass market..
best I've seen right now is united nuclear's. Google it if you wanna know more...
arent they struggling to finish solar power races with cars that weigh 300 pound and have one person in it, and a university's engineering budget? seems every cloudy day = pit stop. i think ur a little off on the solar prices. Hybrids cost a 3-4K premium and when the prius came out toyota was eating up a ton of cash on each one. solar in cars has a long way to go unfortunately.

you missunderstood, you use solar cells to produce electricity @ your home. You use this electricity to hydrolyze water into oxygen and hydrogen. ( remeber science class? ) You store the hydrogen and fill your car with it. Depending on sunlight etc, it could take a couple days to fill your car, but that's adequate for most people.
Bunnygirl, you must have sails on that thing to get over 23mpg, either that or you got the optional pedal package. I assume you do a great deal of highway driving at very moderate speeds.
Hell I got 23 while driving down to VIR a few weeks ago... 75mph on cruise control. If I'd kept it to 65 it would have been better mileage, but boring as hell.

No way!! Ive never been able to get over 16 mpg and thats with DSC and traction control OFF but Im not sure if even that helps.
