Do you need all-season tires in the Bay Area?

Before buying the car, I completely ignored the threads about how awful the car's tires are in the winter. I realize it's not even summer yet, so it's probably the wrong time to ask, but how do the 8's summer tires handle the weather in the Bay Area?

From reading the forum, snow is a huge problem. That's not a worry for us in the Bay Area. But cold weather is also a problem. What do people mean by "cold"? (I've lived in AZ and CA for the last 8 years, so my definition of cold (below 60) is a little different than people on the East coast.)

BTW, my OEM tires are the Dunlop 8090s, not the Potenzas.

I guess we'll find out but I would say probably not. I had similar tires (a little softer) on my last car and they worked great for everything except for the snow/ice covered road up north that I slid off of (not on the cliff side). Of course in the winter I don't drive as fast or take corners quite the same way, some caution is necessary.

summer tire won't be a problem. just don't drive too fast during rain season esp when the road is flooded.

Summer tire is fine unless you want to go up to Tahoe in winter.

My car has been through the "cold" winter in the Bay Area once. I did not notice any problem with the OEM tires at all.
