2010 Mazdaspeed 3 - Smiley Creature After All?

That's actually really insightful... AWD would no doubt raise the price significantly, elevating it out of reasonable priced compact hatch segment.
It will never be able to put all of the power down as well as we all think it should, and will probably continue to have horrid torque steer and you'll have to rotate your tires every other fill up just to keep the tire wear even BUT they do have the market completely locked with the most powerful hatch back out there. Most people love to talk about horsepower. . . as 8 owners, were try to stay away from that number and talk about handling, which is what's happening in this thread.

Wheels, not rims!!

pretty sure they are the same or very close wheel to the rx8. 18 x 8.
the tires are 225 45 18.
i drove the 2010 on saturday. it is very, very nice. also drove the 09.
if they took the gt seats from the 09 in the 10 it would have sold.. oh, wait. the one i drove was that blue from hell.
the inside of the 10 is much nicer than the 09. the motor and tranny feel the same, though the tranny gears have been changed for the 10.
the outside, well that is so individual.. the 10 us growing on me.
beers

The new MS3 or MPS 3 is a much better car....it no longer lane hopes when you plant it, like the old model....very little to no torque steer.
You have to look at this car with License Plates on, it is a much better looking car in the flesh, in fact I have got to like all the sculpturing the hatch has.
The plain old Mazda 3 Sedan, has a HUGE rear ***.!!, that I don't particularly like, but I can blame the USA for that one.

The weird pattern going from seats to dash is odd. Wait till it goes out of style and it'll be even worse.
I really don't like the new 3's info screen up top. It looks tiny. It looks about the size of an iPhone screen for the nav.

I hear a lot of negativity about the smiley front end but I think the new design looks really good; I guess I'm a weirdo. In my opinion, the new 3 is just another great car from a great company. I probably would have ended up getting the new speed3 over the 8 if not for the fact that I have a hangup about only buying RWD or AWD at this point in my life.

i went to the dealership to buy the new speed3... they told me he will only go as low as $500 over sticker price. so $24,445 was the lowest he would... then i said i want to test drive it and he said they dont do test drives for the speed3 cuz its so limited and every1 wants them with 0 miles... so i walked out at got a 08 rx8 with 09 miles brand new from dealer for 23k

People - pls stop buying into this no torque steer myth on FWD cars with 200+ hp...
It's easy to prove.
Find an flat empty road with little to no imperfections on the surface, let go with your steering wheel, and give it 1/2+ throttle, and see if you're travelling in a straight line...
I mean sure, the MS3 probably have little torque steer in relative to higher powered FWD cars, but to say it has little to no torque steer in general context, it's just plain false.

is not woodgrain is like red CF!!
AAAck! I see woodgrain on the dash - not 'sporty' since 1978 really...
The stuff on the wheels - yes they are mags - its a protective film somewhat like plastic ricepaper - its there to keep the sea salt off the rims and brake components during shipping by sea. Ive seen the same on cars here going to the dealers from the wharves.

I really didn't like the steering feel in the new 3 sedan I rented last month. Very sloopy and very little feedback compared to the last gen 3's. Hopefully they haven't changed it on the new Speed3. I also hope they've managed to improve the visibility through the rear windshield.

The front end really messes up the look of the car, otherwise it's an awesome car. You really need to drive it to appreciate it. Instant power off the line though I'd give up a lot of that for some mad top end power but that's just me.
