OK,
I now have a Mazda EPC (Parts Catalog) for the latest RX-8 (Series II).

So I can confirm exactly what has changed between the two models.

What I am comparing is the Final Series I (08) RX-8 manufactured against the latest (09) Series II.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is NO Change in the Tail Shafts between manuals, there is a change for the Auto's though.

The Spark Plug Leads have changed, BUT, the COILS have Not....
Part Numbers have gone from an N3H1-18-100A to a B, the B was also used in 08 RX-8's.

Both Series have two Cooling Fan Motors, they have changed on 09's though the fan blades are the same, I am thinking that the motors RPM's have Changed.
Other essential parts in the cooling system, hoses and thermostat remain the same.
Can not confirm ON/OFF Temperature settings for Cooling Fans..yet.

Oil Coolers have changed (confirmed), however the Auto still only has one.
Two for the Manual.

Clutch and Pressure Plates are the same, but the Throw Out/ Fork Bearing has changed.

Both Alternator and Compressor drive belts have changed.

New Oil Pressure Sensor mounted on EMOP #1.

Throttle Body and Electric Air Pump remain the same.

The Oil Pump assembly, is totally all new and is sold ONLY as a complete assembly, NO OP internal parts sold separately.

Alternator, Starter, Fuel Pump assemblies have all changed.

There are NO changes to the Brake Pads or Brake Rotors, front or rear.

More to come..

Thanks, I always trusted zoom44 on this despite the naysayers here. But it's still too cold here for me to go out and measure to confirm the change in size.

Anyone plugged in a OBDii/CAN scanner into a series 2 to confirm whether or not the new Oil Pressure Sensor info (.55- 1.03 v /50-150kPa/.51-1.52 kgf/cm2 / 7.3-21.7 psi) is available to on the bus?

Nope.
OK, Now I have the Mazda EPC, I can tell you a little more about the Oil Metering Pumps and Supply to the nozzles.

The two Tubes you see on each of the Oil Metering Pumps are a Supply Line/Circuits (in) Only for the two pumps.

The Supply lines to the nozzles are done by banjo connectors (both ends) on the Oil Metering Pumps and the Nozzles.

The Oil pressure sensor is attached to oil metering pump #1.
Obviously it monitors oil pressure to the EMOP's.

The Oil metering Pump #1 (with OP Sensor) supplies only Two Nozzles, (possibly the new trailing centre nozzle injectors)

The Oil Metering Pump #2 supplies the remaining 4 Nozzles.

Each nozzle has it's own independent supply line from the two EMOP's.

Well if it makes anyone feel better Mazda is currently and has photographed every single engine we disassembled for research and I mailed out some used apex/side that they wanted for research in Japan last week. We have to photograph the housing/rotors/eccentric shafts for every single engine. They also then measure the side/apex seals for all of them for more research reasons.

I havent had the pleasure of tearing apart a 09 yet, we have 16 brand new 09's to ship out before we send out rebuilds for owners. So far we shipped one out, it went to SF, CA the owner hit a rock and lost all the oil and it ran dry. Sad to see it but you figure that would happen to someone.

N3H1-13-35ZF Is the Series I fuel pump assembly with No serviceable or replacement parts...according to my EPC.

The Series II is a N3R1-13-35Z the Assembly, however, there are now 2 serviceable parts available/listed...

LFB6-13-ZE1 Fuel Filter (Inside pump body)
LFB6-13-280 Pressure Regulator, Valve (Inside Pump Body).

Whether there is a changed in Pump Pressure I can not confirm at this stage.

Both LFB6 Parts are listed available from US Dealers, I can't confirm if they fit Series I Fuel pumps.
Fuel Filter retails $20.93 and Regulator $35.47 USD

Wow, must of been some rock they hit, the new Sump Guards on the 09 are reasonably thick plate then you have to tear into the sump itself!

Newly added is a "Magnet" located in the engines sump. (Part # F401-17-121).

Last used in the 1989 FC RX-7, But in the Auto's Transmission Case NOT in the Engines SUMP PAN, this Sump Magnet is a first for any Rotary.

End Plate..Something New

Again Something New...

There is a new 'End Plate" which goes between the End Housing and Transmission's bell housing.
One for Manual and one for Auto Transmissions.
This spacer is 3 mm thick.

Sum Bitch---its REALLY interesting that they changed the fuel pump assembly this way.
Venturi is different, fpr different location--looks like the sock is different--AND NOW THE FILTER IS REPLACEABLE. I have thought there was a problem with this assembly for a long time---this confirms it for me,
The new arrangement looks like it makes for more room inside the can also----good changes and I hope to hell it will fit the series one---if the venturi line will be able to attach.
DUDE--- BIG THANKS for this info!

Thanks,
Pedals, Basically no...
They have done a change about November 08 production (mine is August 08),
from a B to a C part number, can't confirm if it is a complete change (I say No in my experience on this one) very minor if anything.

New Oil Control Valve

Highlighted (in Red) is the OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) used for the first time in any rotary.

It is located on the Top (left Hand Side) Front Timing Cover Housing and Supplies the engine oil only to the two new EMOP's (Electric Metering Oil Pumps).

Interestingly it is the same OCV Valve used in the 03-06 Mazda 3 and 02-05 Mazda 2.
