Is there any official verification that this extented core warranty applies to 2011 year RX8's? I cannot find any reference to it anywhere - thus I will assume this extended core warranty does not apply.

Looking to potentially move from my 09 Miata to an 2011 new RX8. Yes - studied all aspects via this forum and other locations. Warranty issue is not a deal breaker - inquiring minds just want to know.

Thanks much, Gary

From my OP:
"Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage on Rotary Engine Core Components on all 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 model year RX-8 vehicles. The warranty coverage for the Rotary Engine Core Components is extended to 8 years (96 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 100,000 mileage limitation."

Welcome aboard!

Well, most people – myself included – don't get checked for Lyme disease. Why? Because we feel fine and don't have the symptoms. For most RX-8 owners, the Renesis is like that.

Remember, browsing a car forum is like walking into a doctor's waiting room; most people there don't feel well. But most of aren't in the waiting room; we're out and about, going about our daily lives.

I dont get it... I just read that Mazda produced its last rotary engine this past friday (6/22)

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/...rotary-engine/

How will they fulfill future warranty replacements?

Or did they just build a massive oversupply using assumptions of future replacement needs?

They are talking from a 'New Vehicle Production' point of view.

Individual OEM Mazda RX-8 Spare Parts will still be made and will still be available.

What won't be made "Out of Japan" are complete Body Shells, Transmissions or complete brand new Engines..

I repeat the OEM Parts will still be made and available, just like any other Mazda model that ceases production.

I haven't posted on this forum since I sold my 8 about 1 1/2 years ago, but the news not just that the rotary has ended production, something that hit me really hard, but also that Mazda may be left out of the consolidation dance currently going on, which would leave the company with no choice but to sell. It is an outside chance still, but it is a sad thought. There is no other company currently selling in the US who cares more about the affordable sports car than Mazda, and they make a great product. I miss my 8 every day. It was the most fun car that I ever owned. If it were bigger or baby seats smaller, I would still own it.

Mazda just called me to tell me I need a new engine on my 2004 rx-8... the 8 year warranty expired 3 months ago, what do I do, I only have 65k miles. Does anyone ever had to call Mazda in this situation and tell them look, warranty expired 3 months ago, engines should not fail after 65k miles so you need to replaceit, will they do it?
Plz help

your warranty is expired, they will not budge nor should they considering how long of a warranty they already offer. Had your warranty expired a few days ago, maybe but 90 days out, it's just not going to happen.

Your best option now is to consider a rebuilt motor (which is what mazda would give you): those can be purchased by a few different rotary builders (Mazmart, BHR, Atkins, etc etc) or even through Mazda directly.

time to find a shop that will do the labor at a reasonable rate but you're probably into this for about $4k

In 2010, my milage was at 113K, and I needed a new engine. My dealer got on the phone with Mazda NA and worked a deal whereby I would only pay labor, and not parts. I ended up spending around $2,300. Never hurts to try to work with the dealer, especially in my case they went the extra mile because I was a regular customer. YMMV.

Thanks, let's hope that I will have enough invoices to show and won't have to spend anything.

MN Help!!

Hey guys question for you.

I have an 04 with 60k and I just got her (I love this car). This forum has been my bible for my car. So I have been experiencing issues with grinding into 4th and 5th gear. So I went to bring it in they told me I had bad synchros and barrings and that I had a crack in my clutch. We looked up warranty stuff and obviously found out there is one for the clutch. My mechanic told me to try and get everything for free from Mazda. Cause i mean obviously if the clutch isn't operating correctly it will put wear and tear on synchros and anything else. So in saying that, do you guys think I have a shot? Do you have any recommendations or maybe certain things to say to the Mazda mechanic? I already have an appointment for Monday. So all the feedback will help. I have read like this entire thread and have been reading a lot about compression tests? Can I ask for one and if my car doesn't meet requirements and just get a free engine? Or how does that have anything to do with this thread?? Just wondering thanks guys!!

It's the 8 years you have to worry about.

Ok... So I just got back from the local mazda dealership and had them do a compression test on my 05 w/ 83k on the ODO. It came back with low compression but was denied because my BARO readings passed.

Here are the results....... I penciled in the converted values in the remaining boxes for reference.

Has anyone come across this before?

On a side note, at least my starter is good

Yes. My first compression test had the same thing. My lowest score was a 4.3 I believe, but they said I passed because the BARO test passed.

That being said, they also did a full MSP-16 update and decarb at the same time. 3 days later I had 7.0s as my lowest at another dealer thinking I could get a 2nd opinion. 6 weeks after that, I had 7.6s to 8.1s at the same dealer, same tech.

Does this mean that a decarb will revive your engine too? I don't know the answer to that. Just my experience.

Got my spark plugs and coils changed twice in 5 years, this car eats parts like a dinosaur. Anyway just got my car back after 3 weeks at the shop, replaced the engine (more like rebuilt since they don't make those engines anymore). Runs like a charm now. Mazda wouldn't cover it because I just passed 8 years, but the extended warranty did so all I had to pay was $75 deductible plus spark plugs ($150).
the engine itself is $4000 + $2000 for labor.

CA Compression failed, requiring Carbon clean? Legit?

Howdy all! I have read through this entire post and have a question I could not find an answer to. Finally, my local Mazda did the compression test. It came back one side 6.3 and other side 2.8. *They said Mazda Warranty wants me to pay for them to clean out carbon buildup first. Then, if it fails after carbon clean, only then will Warranty cover engine. So obviously, my question is, are they scamming me with the carbon clean first? I have read this could be a problem and could cause low compression. I have a feeling it is going to fail again, and if it does should I have to pay for carbon clean (which is $175 and includes a compression retest)? I know the original compression free will be waived.*

Thanks again! This forum has been a wealth of information and I truly appreciate it. Love my RX8
