cap fried, nothing working

well my capacitor just fried completely like acid dripping everywhere in my trunk...this is right after i put the main fuse back in which i blew by accidently hooking up the battery + and - switched..i realize that at this point everyone reading thinks i am the biggest dumbass and this is my first time everything..not the case..i was tired and the posts were switched on the battery which i didn't notice and i have no idea why the cap fried because its got a solid ground..anyways the head unit will not even turn on anymore as well as nothing else..i think its because one of the amps it was hooked up to wasn't grounded yet due to bad communication..so would that make sense for the amps not to turn on and everything sits in the cap for 15 seconds then finally blows..any ideas?? im in some deep shit right now thats all i know

have you replaced the stock fuses in the drivers kick panel and the ones under the hood?

Also, was your system that you installed properly fused?

my buddy said he had the cap hooked up correctly..nope that would be too easy..pos. and neg. mixed up..which now i know why the cap blew....i don't know how much damage that did to the rest of the system..but yes its properly fused and no i haven't viewed the other fuses yet..which fuse would cause the HU to not even turn on anymore?

After reading this post and the other post, seems like you need to download a manual from www.mazdausa.com unless you got one? It would show you in there.

well, there is A LOT of charge in a capacitator. And as you may know by now, it hooks up in parallel to your existing power circuit, not in series.

Describe your system, and how its hooked up, power sources, grounds, fuses.

If it was was properly fused then it should just be the fuses,

But since the cap was backwards, the capicator would have wanted to charge itself once it was connected to power, and would have pulled electricity from the ground through other wiring to try and charge itself.

Chances are that:

a) you blew a ton of fuses around your entire car, and possibly melted some wiring.

b) your car was not properly fused/wired or it pulled too much current through a little accesory and toasted it.

I suggest you pull all the fuses from your car and check them, if they are all good then you will probably need to replace a few things. That and never let that friend touch your stereo system again.

alright thanks
none of the wires are melted and im in the process of checking all the fuses
power comes from the battery hits a fuse (250A) and goes into a distribution block, one way goes to the 4 channel and the other way goes to the cap, off the cap it goes to both amps with no fuses intercepting it. so there is a chance i messed up both amps correct?

its hard to tell man.. I think you should unhook everything, and then hook it all back up one piece at a time, double checking everything as you are doing that. - good luck man
