Clear stone guard taken off before installing side aero flares?

A question for those of you who installed the Mazda appearance package side aero flares after they bought the car.

Was the clear stone guard below the rear doors on the lower sill taken off before installing side aero flares?

I'd just leave it on. It's so thin that it won't cause any gaps or fitment issues. I hear it's a pita to remove anyway.
