350Z v. BMW Street Race - Houston

Damn reporters didn't say who won. I bet a RX-8 was there and beat them all, but was so fast no one could identifiy it.

Teens Injured In Street Racing Crash
HOUSTON -- Two teens were injured when a driver crashed his new car while street racing in River Oaks late Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said the crash happened when the driver of a Nissan 350Z lost control while racing a BMW on Kirby Drive near Stanmore Drive at about 10:30 p.m.

"At some point, the Nissan lost control and left the roadway, striking two trees and pinning both occupants in the vehicle," Capt. Milton Martin said.

The force of the impact caused the car to split in half.

The 16-year-old driver suffered a head injury, and his girlfriend, the front-seat passenger, suffered minor injuries. Both teens were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Detectives said the car had been picked up from a dealership earlier in the week.

The driver of the BMW left the scene before emergency crews arrived, police said.

A reason not to street race or let under 21's drive anything faster than a Ford Taurus wagon.

Saw this happen once because of tar and pea gravel used to repair the road. Guy was a spoiled brat and complete jerk but was ok.

Funny you should mention that, that was my first and only other car. (Bought the 8 last year, quite a step up)

The best part is the tree survived the whole thing and is still standing while the car is split in half.

My kids are getting a crappy old 4 cylinder station wagon until they prove to me they won't be as dumb as I was in high school.

I am shock his girlfirend was able to walk away from this crash as reported on the video.... usually its the driver that walks away untouched and the passenger that get banged up or killed, guess not this time.

Way to much car for a unexperienced 21 year old.

^^^ really? IIRC looking at the safety records on the 8, the front passenger is safer than the driver for most types of crashes...

Just a guess, but maybe those stories are from when airbags were only found on the driver's side. I would think the driver is going to get it worse since they have the steering column and all that in their way.

Fixed that for you.

By the way, what's the guy's real age? I thought it said 16 in the first article (could be wrong), now it says 21, then it said 20 in the next article. What's that all about? Either way, what kind of an asshat puts their friends - let alone their girlfriend - in danger by trying to show off in a street race? Hell, I'd be hesitant to let any of my friends ride along on a race track, let alone in a street race.
