November Drive

So I kind of feal like I've just been handing these down lately, and really value everyone's input. In that regard I want to offer a couple of suggestions for the November run.

First, in the spirit of avoiding the holiday, I think we should shoot for the 11th or 12th. Sunday's usually work out better, but it's also starting to get bit hectic.

We've been north and east the last 3 runs so it's probably time to come back the other direction too. My suggestions are either Hwy 101 along Hood Canal or a tour of the eastern part of King and Pierce Counties. I did the East county tour last January and had a blast, but it is heavy on the navigation. I've not done 101 from Hoodsport to Quilcene but I have heard great things about it.

I think you're right on the date Kris. Unfortunately we have company that weekend so we wouldn't be able to make it. We could do the weekend after if you have a lot of negative responses to the date. I don't know the area much yet so I'm up for whatever you're recommending.

I could do any Sunday in November so I'm down with any of them if you decide to change the date. Saturdays are tough for me from now until the end of the year because my various bands are playing almost every weekend.

The Hoodsport-Quilcene run could easily be topped off with a Ferry ride home. That's been a nice relaxing way to end the event in the past. Of course, the East County back-roads are closer to home for most of us. Another benefit (maybe) of the Hwy 101 route is that it'll be a lot harder for me to miss a turn or make a wrong one. Navigation (of either the electronic or human variety) is likely still a ways off for me.

I can do any weekend in November right now. I'm leaning toward Hoodsport-Quilcene because I need a major change of scenery.

Krankor - We usually meet between 10 and 11am, head toward our destination, and eat somewhere along the way. Like Kristopher said, we've had routes in the past where we've come back by ferry and it was really nice. Most of the time we've been back between 5 and 7pm, depending on traffic. In the warmer months we've done a pot-luck BBQ, but for the October run to Leavenworth we went to a restaurant. We also took a little time to walk around Leavenworth because it was the final day of Oktoberfest.

For any of you who have been waiting for something "in your neck of the woods", please speak up and suggest another route. We've had anywhere from 5 to 8 cars on a run, but more is good too . Many 8 drivers also bring passengers, like spouses and/or kids and even wild and crazy parents .

(And Kristopher - don't worry about nav skills and having to stop once in a while. You do a great job of leading! )

Well, 05TiGr8Lady pretty much summed it up. I try to find a park near the beginning of the route where we can meet, chat, and not attract too much unwanted attention Hoodsport is just about at the south end of Hood Canal, on the Olympic side. Quilcene is just about the North end of Hood Canal.

And definately at least let everyone know where your "neck of the woods" is. Even if you don't have a suggestion for drives, I can come up with something. I'll either find it in my books or spend a weekend in the area searching for a good set of roads.

It's a shameless plug, but check out the site in my sig. It's in need of some more routes to be added (and some structural upgrades) but that little project makes a weekend of road hunting tax deductible for me. Actually, I've a list of roads to run this weekend so I can do a respectable job of writing them up.

Well, I'm kind of interested in joining in, but I'm new to the area and don't know *any* of the landmarks you guys are talking about...

No worries... Usually a couple of us caravan to the meeting place for the same reason. Me and Marquis and FABRO live fairly close to each other in Renton so we've done that. Bellevue is close too - you can always join the caravan.

I've been hoping that more people on the East Side (of Lake Washington - such as Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, etc.) would show up, but there are usually schedule conflicts. Hope you can make it.

That goes for everyone who isn't sure where a run is. You can usually findsomeone to caravan with. It's often a good idea to find some relatively well known landmark to meet at and head out from there. I'm in Redmond so Bellevue is pretty much on my way no matter what route I take.

4 to 0 Hwy 101.
3 to 1 Sunday the 12th

I guess that mans we'll be running Hwy 101 on the 12th.

After I rebuild my home computer (again, just can't stop playing with it ) I'll find a good meeting place. According to Live Local it's a much quicker trip to drive around the sound, so maybe we'll try a rolling rendeazvou this time.

Kristopher - Maybe we should leave the "voting booth" open a little longer in case some haven't seen it yet? It's been 7 days. Or do you need the time between now and the 12th to do all the planning? If you keep it open until Sunday the 5th, does a week give you enough time to finalize the route by the 12th? Just a thought ...

Yeah, we can keep the polls open. I'll do the preliminary planning for both routes and do the hard stuff this coming weekend. So, polls are open through Friday. I haven't a clue how to re-open the voting mechanism, so just post up if you want submit a new vote.
