Question new Rx-8 already with 50 miles on it? nomral??

hi every body, i just got my RX-8 today. this car is so easy to drive i cant even describe it~~~!!! DAMn nice.
anyway, before i purchased my car, i saw it already had 50 miles on it, and the salesman told me it was due to some testing done to the car.
so, does anyone here also have this kind of issue that your car already had some miles on it before u bought it?

That is one hell of a test . I got my car with 6 miles on it. This is purely speculation, but i think he gave some test drives.

Seems awfully high to me... I had 7 miles on my car when I got it, and I can understand that. Yours has likely been out for a few test drives.

Fortunately you have everything covered under warranty and if you get to the first 1000 miles without any hiccups or noises, then you are probably in the clear. But if the car was abused during that time who knows... *shrug*

You should ask him if that 'testing' included taking it out on test drives.

my car had 235 miles on it when I got it.

The manager actually drove it from a different dealer ship to his own so as to provide me with the car I wanted.

I complained about it and said it was a "used" car.. (I didn't expect them to actually DRIVE it, I thought it would be shipped somehow)..

anyway, I got them to compensate me for the extra mileage (150 bucks).. it wasn't a big deal to me at all actually, but I wanted something for it at least. Some might say I should have fought for more, but I'm not that type.. Internally, I was ecstatic tgat they got me exactly what I wanted only 3 days after I put down my deposit.

In the end, I got a damn good deal when I haggled with the finance manager, but that's another story...

less than 5 miles on mine. I think the dealer was letting customers test drive your car.

I had 8 miles on the odometer, our dealership has a demo car only for test drives.

Mine had 40 km on it (28 miles) - it might have been on one test drive, then I suspect the dealer's manager drove it a bit in the 3 days between when I faxed the deposit and arrived to take delivery. I wasn't happy about that, since they'd promised it wouldn't be test driven, but I only had one choice - take it or leave it, since the supply is so restricted in Canada. I took it, and am very happy with it - it seems my car is on the good side of the mileage and high-rpm power and AC issues, so I definitely got a keeper! Obviously the few miles before delivery didn't hurt it .

Gordon

Seventeen miles on mine when I picked it up in July. I can't really blame the dealer people for wanting to drive one around a little bit -- hope they were gentle!

50 miles does seem high if you were the designated owner of the car. There was another thread, similar to this one, where people called out their mileage at pickup, 15 and under seemed to be predominate estimate. I had 6 miles on mine when I picked it up and 12 when I finished the test drive. It seems your car was "test drove" multiple times.

When my friend got his it had 2 miles on it, the other one on the lot had 6. My salesman said mine won't have more than 5.

We had three miles on ours, we followed the truck to the dealer and were waiting on it when it arrived. There is a thread about people who were allowed to test drive brand new cars with less than 10 miles on them as hard as they wanted. Of all I have read on this forum, that fact had me the most upset with this car and their preorder customers. Anything over 10 miles were probably ugly hard miles, I'm sorry to say. My son has a friend who works in the detail department at the local dealer, and he said that they take the cars to a little deserted road near the dealer and max them out. These are teenagers that wash and wax the cars. That and other stories is why I found the truck coming into town and followed it.

All this stuff about you have a warranty, is fine, but its been my experience that bad break-in detracts primarily from peak performance and longevity of the car, not something you can specify in a warranty claim, under the warranty period.

Of course they are going to say anything except how the miles really got there. I would say anything over 10 miles is eccesive for a new car at any location, and should have been designated a demo car. Good Luck.

P.S. If mine had anything over 25 miles when I got it, with what I know now, I would be taking the buy back, and getting me another one (RX-8 of course) with less that 5 miles on it.

Not me - I seem to have been very lucky, since my particular car (with 40 km on it when I picked it up) doesn't have the hi-rpm lack of power, the oil light problem, the AC problem, the cruise control surging problem, the high fuel consumption problem - of all the problems reported here, I've got NONE of them (major knock on wood happening at this point). Why on earth would I gamble on getting as good a car for the sake of a few unknown km?

Now, the fact that my 1 month old RX-8 already has 5000 miles on it after my road trip might make me consider... . Actually, not - aside from the fact that supply in Canada is extremely restricted so I couldn't just buy another off the lot after returning mine on the buy-back, this one is definitely a keeper.

Regards,
Gordon

I wasn't saying they all were abused on test drives, but some I know were. I just don't like taking a 30,000 dollar crap shoot. I personally don't rag-a-muffin cars when I test drive them, but many do and take some sort of pride in doing it. Cars they never intend to buy, dealers they never intend to visit again.

I think mine had 7.5 miles. It's hard to say what happened in the 50 yours has. The bottom line is you either complain about it but take it, complain about it and don't, or don't complain about it at all. If you feel something is amiss later, sell it back. I think personally I'd want to find out exactly why it has 50. my dealer explained even the 7-I think it had 2 off the truck and they have a certain Shell station they use to fill the cars that is about 1.5 - 2 miles away. Plus they had to drive it around the lot a bit. The break-in period is important - it's 600 miles long. Those 50 represent 8.5% of your break-in period. If it was 'abused' during some or most of those 50 miles I'd be concerned about it. That's part of the reason I tried to see mine come off the truck - I did. I made myself pretty well known to most at the dealership before and on the arrival date as to hopefully get it PDI'd the way I expected it to be. I believe it was. Your decision - it seems yours is among the high end of miles on delivered 8's!
