Thanks mr! I'm still learning the car - it's quite a step up from a 115whp, 2250lbs Miata. :D

getting two keys but only one fob would be useless. you need the fob to disable the car alarm. So one fob per key, thus two fobs total.

When I turn the key in the door, the lights flash. (Disables/inables the alarm).

Thanks, though! I'd better see two fobs in the mail

Hey I learned something new. Now I have to check that there really is no key hole on the passenger door. I never even noticed.

i gotta tell ya i've really never heard of these things b4,
not even sure my jap import came with a valet key, well i wasn't given 1 anyway!
That does sound top though, valet key, so never heard of that b4

Well thanks 4 enlightening me!
You should've been given 2 real keys with Fobs and then 1 valet key. If I remember correctly the 2 real keys are black and the valet one grey.

The 7 sec button holding thing is new to me too. I'll keep my DSC on though. Rather have the added safety.

Another gripe - the window ledge is too high to comfortably rest my elbow on, as I drive

Even with the windows up - the side sill is too high, and the arm rest too low.

Yes. I'm nit-picking. The car is that good that I have to nit pick

That's definitely the result of coming from a Miata- it drove me nuts for the first couple weeks, too.

Malfunction??? LOL It's made to disable everything... if it were causing a malfunction, it would have not been printed in the book and fixed really quick by a reflash.... you know.. those books that come with the car in the glove compartment? Yeah, it's in there.

right - and the page reads something like " WARNING! If you hold the button in too long, the computer thinks the switch is malfunctioning, thus everything is disabled".

:D

That's their legaleze way of saying "If you wanna REALLY have fun, try this!"

Uh, yes, malfunction. Yes, I'm quite aware of the book that came with the car... I read it front to back before I even bought the car. Here's what it says:

If the DSC OFF switch is pressed and held for a second or more, the TCS/DSC system may become inoperative due to the system detecting switch trouble. If the TCS/DSC system becomes inoperative, the TCS/DSC and the DSC OFF indicator lights illuminate simultaneously. In this case, turn off the engine and restart it to restore the TCS/DSC.

Malfunction=="system detecting switch trouble"

He he - That's like the manual that came with my Porsche. It frequently refers to "spirited driving" - otherwise known as "driving like a cat with his tail on fire"

And let's not forget that it improves gas mileage and acceleration slightly... speaking about "driving like a cat with his tail on fire" :p

Traction Control improves mileage and acceleration? or the lack of it?

Yes, supposedly. I haven't done any accurate testing, although admittedly my fuel efficiency hasn't improved (~240 miles/tank--is that bad or normal?).

Here is just one of a number of threads discussing it:

I doubt turning it off does much for fuel economy, but it does help on hard accelerations- if you get on it properly, you should get rubber in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If TCS is on, the engine is going to bog after after tire slip and kill your time. Normal acceleration shouldn't be affected though. Prior to the 'L' flash though, I swear that disabling DSC/TCS made a bigger difference in hard accelerating- I think mazda tweaked the program a bit.

270 posts and only had the car 72 hours? Impressive! :p You have more posts than I do, and I've had my car since August!

Be good to you 8 during the break-in period, as tempting as it may be not to. If it helps, from my experience, it performs A LOT better after it's been broken in, so you won't be missing much if you wait

Hey...

- TCS/DCS is switchable if not completely turned off. When you over-ride the computer, it basically needs to be reset.
- No keyhole...as Jason said, I would rather no keyholes.
- Welcome to ROTARY. I personally love the stumbling start.

Sounds like you'll need new rear tires soon!! Nice :D Enjoy.
