First time at the stelarship here today for the msp-16 reflash. I engaged the servcie writer in a convo about aftermarket exhaust and/or intakes/airfilters.

His stance was that ANYTHING done or added to the car that is aftermarket and/or NOT Mazdaspeed AND installed by the dealer can and will void the warranty. I mentioned the law (though not by name), and he stated that Mazda has enough money to fight it on a case by case basis.

What's annoying is that he seemed on the side of MAzda on this one, and not on the customer side. Makes me worry about what the future holds for me at this one and only stealership within 70 miles...

 

lol money doesn't matter, the support is all over your side. Exhaust can't make the suspension, or engine blow up. It provides better breathing...How can something exiting the engine damage the engine?

 

I just read here tonight that a member here is having difficulty with a dealership saying his catback and the resulting less backpressure caused his engine failure. I need to find it and post a link.

This is the nature of car companies

 

yes but in order for that denial to stand Mazda would have to prove that the net decrease in back pressure caused a failure and that somehow their own mazdaspeed exhaust does not.

of course that could mean wrestling them into a court. sometimes that is necessary to make companies abide by the law.

Luckily my stepfather is a Lawyer, who is also the cosigner. He owns his own law firm and he's the top of his field in the southwestern US. SCHWIIIING

Sounds good on paper, but I already had Mazda not cover a blown engine on a mazda6 because the ride height was 1" lower than stock. So dont get too excited. Car companies (Ford, Chevy, Mazda, etc.) get a black mark against them for warranty work done. Their goal is to find a way out of the work, and as a last resort, then fix it. They lose bonus' when they go over a certain amount. If oil is dirty, you are done. Aftermarket air filters wont fly, suspension mods, exhaust etc. are all red flags for them...

 

Either way its going to be a giant hassle going through the arguement. But worth a try.

 

The burden of proof being on the warranty giver, this isn't a fair match. If it's not something directly related, take them to the court if necessary. You'll get your court costs covered, and maybe make a few grand in the long run too.

Most likely they will give in once they see you're not going to back down at any point.

 

Well, looks like ill be bringing Mazda to court for failure to warranty a cracked spider gear... they said its because my tires are 245's instead of 225.... we'll see, im in talks with a couple lawyers now.

Has there been any update on this? I was just about to post a thread asking how far I could mod before voidifying my warranty, but them voiding for running wider tires seems ridiculous.

 

They stopped fighting back after a couple calls and my rear diff is fine now

Now im clearly heavily modded and my dealer just tells mazda my car is stock so they have nothing to complain about

 

I know this hasn't been touched in a while, but I had my suspension fail on my old 02 neon. I had it les then a year and a strut blew. After towing it to the dealership, they told me that my warranty was void due to my intake, coil, wires and plugs. I said please explain to me how that affected my suspension. They said mods void the warranty. I asked them to put it on paper. He went back and talked to his supervisor, he came out and apologized and they repaired it. If they refuse you, get it on paper. Then take the paper to a lawyer. They can't refuse you if you didn't cause the damage.

 

Great now i can get some mods and not worry about it.

Its not that bad now its so unpredicitable though. They say we will have no rain all week so i wash my car and it has rained almost every day ha ha. Its a little hot at the time but im sure florida is hotter

 

Haha it's the same way down here. No matter what they say, it rains. And it you make plans? It rains harder. I've got some friends going out for the weekend. 10% chance of rain. They make their reservations...40%. They're packing to leave, it's pouring down rain and it's 60% all weekend. lol That's Florida for you. :P
